Psalm 49

Read the verse first and then the comments.

Verse 1

This has to be God because any human would have a language problem. In Germany they speak German. In Spain they speak Spanish. But the only one who can communicate in every language would be the one who confused the languages in the first place.

Verse 2

It doesn’t matter what you have or will accomplish or how you look at yourself. This is something we don’t think about.

Verse 3

When anybody tells you they are going to say something smart, it is never that smart. The things that seem so intelligent and important lose their luster with time. When God says something is intelligent, you look stupid saying you are smarter than God.

Verse 4

This is something we don’t think about. This is one of the hidden mysteries in the bible. If you add music to words, they seem to have more meaning.

Verse 5

Bubble gum Christianity is a lie. We all have control of our lives. God will not plant a vegetable garden in your back yard or paint your living room. If you want a clean house you will have to clean it yourself. You can and should put yourself through college. If you don’t make something of yourself, you won’t be anything. Some things are off limits for some but okay for others. This is wrong. This nation should have one law for every citizen. We have elected politicians that want to bus kids to bad public schools, while their own kids go to private schools. It doesn’t matter. God is in control. When we think we can defeat Him or enjoy His blessings without applying His word to our lives it makes Him laugh.

Verse 6 & 7

Man makes money but money does not make man. It doesn’t matter how much money you make. Money cannot add an inch to your height or a minute to your life. We may think of money as a god, but when we have been shot in the chest, we won’t put money over the bullet holes expecting to be healed. Riches are deceitful.

Verse 8 & 9

We will all die and be judged by God for the way we lived our lives on earth. I would rather stand before God with six crosses on my back and run the risk of hearing Him say, “not those, just that one”, than to be judged wearing a silk suit, a gold watch, and alligator shoes and be asked, “where is your cross”? Then I pull it out from around my neck and hear, “how are you going to be nailed to that”? Jesus says in Matthew 10:38 that those who do not take up their cross and follow Him are not worthy of Him.

Verse 10

It doesn’t matter how or what you think or what you have. Your faith is irrelevant. No one is going to give you a house or let you live anywhere for free. Well we should take care of our children. But kids have a nasty habit of growing up. You will leave everything you got on this earth on this earth. You will carry nothing in your hand.

Verse 11

God can read your mind and knows your innermost thoughts. We name lands, states, and counties after famous people. When we name something, we feel empowered but we really haven’t done anything. Jeremiah 17:5 says cursed be the man that trusts in man. You can’t depend on anyone to do for you what you should do for yourself.

Verse 12

Just like when a pet dies, you never see it again. So when we die, we won’t be back.

Verse 13

None of us are divinities. Everybody has the bible misunderstood. Read the word of God and let the Holy Spirit speak to your heart. The traditions of man make the word of God have no effect. The real truth is the word of God is meant to be followed but not policed. You have no means of determining if someone has violated a commandment, and if they did there is nothing you can do about it. We are the only ones that we can make sure are following God’s word. Right now we are following blind guides.

Verse 14

Some day we will be the main course in a subterranean buffet.

Verse 15 & 16

Only Christians have hope after death. Anyone who doesn’t believe in God has no hope after death.

Verse 17

Build your hope on things eternal, holding on to God’s unchanging hand.

Verse 18

The motivation for most of our actions is to gain pleasure or avoid pain. Unfortunately in our pursuit of pleasure, we hurt ourselves in the long run. We should take care of ourselves and our children.

Verse 19

Those deceived by satan will have a difficult time accepting the truth. The hardest person to teach is one who thinks he knows already.

Verse 20

For most of us, there is little difference between the way we think and the mindset of a dog.
