A good way to spend friday evening.

Tonight I got to see one of my all time favorite performers in concert. She originally was slightly before my time, but I have kind of rediscovered her.

I am speaking of Ronnie Specter. Her group was the Ronettes. They were from that pre Beatle era of girl groups of the early 60s. Big hair with a big voice packed into a small body. The lady can still belt out the songs. She is the only remaining member of the group.

Enjoying the concert sipping gin and tonics and conversing with other patrons slightly under the influence made the evening.

Sorry. I assumed the interest for the Ronettes to be limited to a few of us oldsters who appreciate talent and who knew who they were. Here is a video of them in their prime.

I was a young kid when they were big. In the 80s when Ronnie Specter and Eddie Money made 'Take me home tonight', I got into her music and history. I had never seen her live before. I have been to many classic rock concerts and sometimes been disappointed because many singers just do not have the voice anymore. Davy Jones of the Monkees and the Crystals come to mind. Peter Noon of Herman's Hermits always did a good show.

Ronnie still has her voice, stage presence, and did not disappoint.

Good to know there are fellow music lovers on OPP. I guess it is because I h**e most music made after about 1988 that I have searched and found a lot of stuff that wasn't even in my era.

I have nothing against the Beatles, but their music destroyed a lot of very good artists by changing the landscape in the mid 60s. The girl groups come to mind first.

At the concert there were a lot of men older than me, plus their wives tagging along, who just love Ronnie Specter.
