I don't think so. The reason it took me so long to realize my mistake, is that they look the same, act the same way and speak the same language.

No, I refuse. When they jabber at me, I'm fond of saying "no habla Mexican", then I jabber back in my own made up language. That makes THEM suspicious, because I'm pretty sure they understand English. ;-)

My mother in law is a LEGAL immigrant from Germany. It pisses her off when we are in public, and those people switch to spanish, so she starts talking to us in German, and we nod, smile, and say ja.
I don't know much German, but pretend to understand.
