Socialism is not the redistribution of wealth. It is the redistribution of poverty.

Socialists are always complaining about "e******y". The ethos of the egalitarian cousin.

And in their system of government, they actually get e******y. They all become equally poor...while the government becomes the rich.

Somebody's going to obtain the wealth in any system. It's only a matter of who and how it's distributed.

In a free market, merit-based system, everyone has the opportunity to obtain and realize wealth of some measure. There are many factors that contribute to one's level of opportunity and outcome, but much of it depends on the individual.

In the socialist model, the outcome is predetermined...by the government...not the individual...until the money runs out...and then either bailouts or cans being kicked down the road start to take place...or eventually, the government decides that they have too many mouths to feed...and the rationing begins...or simply, people start to disappear.

This is why the EU will eventually collapse under its own weight of debt. This is why America will also collapse due to decades of progressive policies (from both parties), crushing debt and an overblown and overreaching government.

Good times!!! Eat, drink and be merry...for tomorrow we pay the tab. And when I say "we", I mean our posterity.

I have lived for a short time in a former Soviet country where Socialism still is the dominate remaining government policy. Free utilities and some free housing still exists. Most of the housing is government built multi-family complexes. The average apartment is one bedroom, one bath, and a small kitchen. Heating is available when the government thinks it is necessary. It is not unusual that the heat is not turned on until the middle to late October regardless of the outside temperature. The water is turned off usually around 9 PM The individual has no control of heating. Usually a family of 4 or more share the small living quarters The exteriors of these complexes and the stairs are maintained by the occupants. This means that nothing is ever repaired unless one or more of the occupants take it upon themselves to do the maintenance themselves. with all of these free benefits the individual loses the freedom of choice.

With free university and college tuition the student loses the freedom of choice of which college they can attend. This is because of limited enrollments due the lack of facilities. A college or university has only a limited number of classrooms and living arrangements. The number of professors and teachers are limited thus the student has limited choices of areas of study. Free tuition means the loss of choice of colleges and area of study.
