Take the low seat
The scriptures found that promote this idea are in Proverbs 25:6 and 7, and Luke 18:7 – 11. The main idea is that it is not a good thing to think you are closer to God that anyone else. If you are important they will realize it after they get rid of you. Take the low seat. It is better to be told to come up in front of everybody than to take a lower seat than the first one you sat in. Don’t present yourself as better than everybody else. The greatest should be servant to all. Matthew 18:4 Mark 9:43, Luke 9:48 and 14:11 and 18:14 all express this idea. Don’t think too much of yourself. Matthew 18:2, Luke 18:17. Don’t blow your own trumpet, proclaiming your own greatness. Proverbs 27:2 says, “Let someone else praise you and not your own lips”. Religion has divided us. Denomination means divide. We should go to church looking for what we can give instead of what we can get. This idea of being saved or lost puts us into categories. In God’s eyes we are all the same, the preacher is no closer to God than a choir member. Churches love to read the scripture that says you shall be the head and not the tail, the lender and not the borrower. That covenant would have worked if followed but it was broken and replaced. We should be prepared for the trials and tribulations that will come our way.
