15th chapter Matthew

Verse 1 and 2

The Sanhedrin did not care about anyone but themselves. They had no respect for God or His son. They can find no instance where Jesus violated God’s law. So they fault Him for breaking “the tradition of the elders”. They have put man’s tradition above God’s law. Just because man does it, doesn’t mean God approves. What is acceptable to man is an abomination in the sight of God. Read Luke 16:15.

Verse 3 through 6

The Sanhedrin had stated that the money that a man would spend taking care of his aging parents could be donated to the church instead. They didn’t have pay all the money they would have spent on their parents. They could make a donation to the church and keep the rest. This was the “tradition of the elders” which man had put above God’s law.

Verse 7 through 9

This verse is found in Isaiah 29:13, but Jesus adds to this verse. The words he adds are “in vain they worship me”. If your worship doesn’t include obedience you are wasting your time. It may feel good to worship, but if you are cheating on your spouse you need to stop.

Verse 10 and 11

I’ve covered this verse before and nothing has changed. Mark 7:15 says it like this: “There is nothing from outside a man that entering into him can defile him: but the things that come out of him”. What is outside a person? The list would include alcohol and cigarettes. We also think saying bad words is a sin. As well as felling a desire to make love to a woman, and this while gay marriage is being legalized state by state. America needs a conscience. We have forgotten our past. We used to be families. Now we have all this sex but have a decreasing population. The only reason the numbers haven’t decreased is because of immigration.

Verse 12

Everybody thought angering the Sanhedrin was a big deal.

Verse 13 and 14

How many remember Elmer Gantry, or the preacher from Bread from Heaven? If God is not in this, I would be wasting my time. If God is in this, it is a waste of time for satan to attempt to try to stop the sun from rising. He has had thousands of years. Maybe it is not over. The saddest thing about blind leading blind is knowing the one following has no way of knowing the one leading him is blind until it is too late. Jesus said let them alone, you are not to try and change their minds.

Verse 15

Jesus spoke to the multitudes in riddles but explained the riddles to His disciples. The only way to have a relationship with God is to read the bible. You sound silly saying Jesus is the head of your life while you ignore every sermon He preached, parable He taught, and miracle He performed.

Verse 16

Jesus expects more of His disciples.

Verse 18

The draught is the sewer. Whatever goes in the body is either digested or expelled as waste. Smoking will not affect your character. Character is a choice of action. We must make better choices as a nation or we will kill ourselves.

Verse 19 and 20

These are covered in the post on the 10 commandments. These are the things we do that defiles us is the eyes of God and man.
Verse 20

The scribes and Pharisees put more emphasis on the outside appearance than an inside change.

Verse 21 through 28

This miracle is not listed in Luke or John. In Mark the woman is Greek. In Matthew and Mark the events are similar except for the identity of the woman. Once again, I know God is telling us something but I don’t know what.

Verse 29 through 31

Jesus healed because He cared. This will be illustrated more in the next verses. By the way, it is obvious the Sanhedrin didn’t care about anything but their own positions because there is no mention that the disciples were hungry.

Verse 32 through 39

This is the only miracle in all four gospels so it has to be important. We should understand that Christ did not feed the multitude. He broke up the fragments, gave them to His disciples, and His disciples fed the multitude.

This miracle is very important in that He gladly feeds all the bread of life, IF they are open to accept it.

Yes ma'am, and a wonderful lesson about faith from the woman who was not a lost sheep from Israel or Jewish, because of her almost refusal to leave without her daughters healing. She called him Lord! She knew exactly who He was. Because of her great faith, he healed her daughter. He will reward those of deep faith!!

Amen! The problem for us, is that we have been taught reason - one MUST rise above reason to believe what appears impossible.
The book of ACTS is full of the impossible, a movement of trust and faith.

15th chapter Matthew br br Verse 1 and 2 br br T... (show quote)

We are not to worship a mortal man or a Jewish zombie. Worshipping Jesus is "vain", meaning worthless. Jesus made a new covenant with those who were willing to forsake their God. This covenant was simply love. This is the commandment of a man, and there are no other rules. Christianity accepts and embraces the wicked and promises them life. Ezekiel 13:22.

I don't know what Bible you are reading, but Ezekiel 13:22 Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:

It's from the Old Testament, nevertheless, I do not read into that what you are implying. Not only that, when you read the Bible, only a fool will take ONE verse and use it out of context.

Christians are the ones who take verses of scripture out of context. You're projecting. They say there were three hundred prophecies fulfilled by Jesus but they are cherry picked verses taken out of context. I'll give you an example. Psalm 41:9 "Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me". This was supposedly fulfilled by Judas. You need to read the whole Psalm to get the full picture. It was not fulfilled by Jesus. It was fulfilled on Xmas day, December 13, 1983 and Tommy Golden is the one who fulfilled verse 9.

But one must not forsake reason; it it not the enemy.

It doesn't matter if you call yourself Christian or if you are atheists, to take just one verse and say this is what it means - you are a fool. And who on earth is Tommy Golden, and who on earth cares about Tommy Golden?

I'm going to go way out on a limb here!! I don't usually do something like this but, I think Susan may be possibly, juuuust maybe, pulling our leg! She is sounding more and more like one that has many different identities. Who is Tommy Golden ? At least she believes that love is ALL.

Thanks, TC. I figured if more nonsense appeared - I'd just ignore it. You can talk to a door, but it doesn't hear.

Tommy Golden was a friend of my roommate at the time, almost 33 years ago. If there is such a thing as a "doubting Thomas", it's him. We had also become friends and I gave him a copy of the paper I wrote as the last speech in my public speaking class. The professor wouldn't let me give the last speech, God hardened her heart. I fed Tommy dinner one night at my apartment and after reading the paper I wrote he rose up against me and I haven't seen or talked to him since.
