If you want to see this part of the Continent in real style, Google "Rocky Mountaineer Railway." I've done this twice, and my favorite was Vancouver to Jasper. Unbelievable scenery. Best time to go is early July to see the turquoise waters. The Canadian $ is favorable right now.

Gorgeious photos, Elwood.

One of the items on any bucket list of mine is to tour Montana's Glacier National Park/Waterton Lakes Park...on both sides of the U.S./Canadian border.

Glacier and Yosemite are on my list. Along with 1,000 + other places. The body is willing but the wallet keeps getting in the way.

I also want to see Acadia National Park in Maine. I have been in and toured both Yosemite and Yellowstone in my RV bus, plus Big Bend and the Isle Royal National Park area.

We spent two weeks traveling to and up and down the north coast of Minnesota and Lake Superior, including the casino at Grand Portage. We had also hit the Black Bear Casino just south of Duluth on our way up the coast. We loved the lighthouses and state parks along the coastal highway. To really enjoy the Isle Royale National Park, one needs to take the ferry out to the island and around it :!: We went in early May...the start of the tourist season, but before the crowds. It not only was cold, but it snowed on our first day at the Black Bear Casino.

Well, at the time, I had figured May was pretty much summer anywhere you go. I was wrong. The weather, overall, was really nice, with unusually cold nights. We saw gorgeous country and ate at some some excellent beach-side restaurants.

Spectacular the views~~~Taken from your article!!

“Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are
beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness
is a necessity; and that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as
fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of
life.”

John Muir

Says it all.... A number of the places you guys are talking about I have also seen...Michigan has a 21 mile stretch of noted water falls that lead you right the UP ..Spectacular they are as well....

Mackinac Island is a place to see it you have never been..You take a ferry across to it and simply get lost in its wonder..The Grand Hotel a must do for lunch or dinner...You would not believe the food or the hugeeeeeeeeee buffet they put out fro lunch..Fudge, yikesssssss, none better that what the Islanders offer you!!!

Funny, I had the same experience in August up near Buffalo, N.Y. It included a brief, really, really brief dip in a lake. A lasting impression was made!!
