Who is my neighbor

In Luke 10:25 - 37 Jesus describes who is our neighbor. In the verses Christ is in a conversation with a lawyer. The lawyer starts by asking a question: “Master, what may I do to inherit eternal life”. Jesus comes back with a question: “What is written in the law”? All you need for success and salvation is written in the word of God. The Old King James is best but read every translation you can get your hands on. If we read and obeyed our bibles we would make better decisions. The lawyer answers, “love God most and your neighbor as yourself”. The 10 Commandments and the whole bible describe our relationship between us and God and us and everybody else. The final characteristic that we develop as we walk on our Christian journey is love. If you have any love and compassion for your listeners you will learn before you teach. Jesus answers, “do this and you will live”. The lawyer must see a problem with the second part because he asks, “who is my neighbor”, to justify himself. Jesus teaches a parable. In the parable a man meets some thieves who rob and beat him. Three men see him lying on the road in a helpless state. The first two, a priest and a Levite, see him and do nothing. Our salvation is useless if we don’t held the helpless, right the wrongs in society, and be a force for good for those around us. We should not finger point or be a source of misery for anyone who has the misfortune of being in the same room with us. There third one to see the man was a Samaritan. The Jews looked up to priests and Levites but down on Samaritans. But the Samaritan was the only one that helped the man. Anyone who is nice to us when we can do nothing for them is a neighbor. A person sitting next to you in church may not necessarily be your neighbor. A person that does something for you is a neighbor. The bible says we should not sleep with our neighbors wife, covet your neighbors property, or harm your neighbor in any way.

Who is my neighbor br br In Luke 10:25 - 37 Jesus... (show quote)

I think that in the Old Testament when they used the word neighbor they were talking about other Jews. In the New Testament the word neighbor is our fellow man. We are taught to help others when in need, to support them in whatever way that we can physically or mentally. We are not to sleep with anyone other than our spouse, or to covet anything, or to cause harm to anyone. I think is really is self-explanatory.

"A person that does something for you is a neighbor": this is the total opposite of what Jesus was saying. All humanity is our neighbor to serve and love. The neighbor is not the one who helped but the one afflicted and ignored by the Evangelical and Catholic, as well as the so-called pillar of society. If my neighbor does nothing for me but live next door, am I to ignore him or his needs?

We should take of ourselves. I can't feed every hungry child. I fed and nurtured my children.
