Chapter 4
Forward
This chapter begins with the meeting between Christ and satan. It is also covered in the 4th chapter of Luke. If satan would try his luck against the son of God, (who he tried to kill in the 2nd chapter), he will throw everything including the kitchen sink at you to throw you off. Fortunately all of our sins have been paid for and salvation is a free gift. It is not Jesus plus, it is Jesus only.

Verse 1 through 3

At no time does Jesus obey satan. It is natural to be hungry after not eating for a month and a half. Satan wants Jesus to use divine power to take care of Himself and not help anybody else. In all three instances Jesus uses the Old Testament scriptures to put satan to flight. Satan hates everything Holy or in the word of God and is criminally insane. Those who are deceived by him can’t control their emotions and the world in their minds is more real to them than the world we are living in. Do the best you can to follow Christ and let the chips fall where they may.

Verse 4

Jesus will never obey satan. If man lives by every word from the mouth of God then maybe we should study what God said to the prophets, as well as the words Jesus taught. God is more pleased with an inward change of repentance than an outward show of worship. What Christ seems to be saying is the decisions we choose are as important to our lives as the food we put in our bodies. The food we eat keeps us alive. So do the choices we decide to embark on.

Verse 5

Whether this was physically or spiritually is immaterial.

Verse 6

Wait a minute. Jesus knows who He is and who His father is. What the enemy seems to be suggesting is that Jesus do something to prove who He is when satan already knows. If that is not crazy it will do until crazy shows up. Satan is criminally insane. The scripture satan butchered is from the 91st psalm verses 11 and 12. He leaves out “in all thy ways” to make it seem like God will protect you if you go to a crack house or a strip bar. I’ll tell you right now, your Christian walk will not lead you to a nudie bar. God is with you as long as you walk in righteousness.

Verse 7

Jesus knows the scripture, and He could have called satan on it but He knows that it would be a waste of time. Satan opposes the word of God and was trying to us scripture to get Christ to kill himself.

Verse 8 and 9

Satan is relentless. He never gives up. After being shut down twice he still wants the son of God to worship him. He is offering the world to Christ when the earth is the lord’s and the fullness thereof. Eventually his intellectual shortcomings will be exposed. It will be like the emperor and his new clothes on steroids.

Verse 10 and 11

In Luke, satan just leaves for a season. Here he doesn’t come back.

Verse 12

Let’s consider John the Baptist: He was imprisoned because he spoke out against wickedness in high places. He was beheaded because Herod found himself enticed by his stepdaughter. Jesus says John was the greatest prophet born of women: this list includes Moses, Ezekiel, Daniel, and Isaiah. If these modern day prophets know what they are talking about then God wasn’t pleased with John or he must have sinned.

Verse 13 Through 16

Jesus was fulfilling scripture. He also came so that we could get a complete understanding of God’s word. Ironically in John 7:52 the Sanhedrin says no prophet comes from Galilee. They must have never read Isaiah 9:1.

Verse 17

This is how John and Jesus started their messages. Repent is doing things differently. You have to know what you are doing, see what the better path is, walk in it or do it. These modern day prophets have us convinced we are all sinners without explaining what sin is and is not.
Verse 18

This may have not been their first meeting. Their first encounter is covered in John. The bible gives two conflicting accounts of the names of the disciples. All four gospels agree on 11 but Matthew and Mark include Lebbaeus whose surname was Thaddaeus and Luke lists a Judas and John mentions a Judas but stresses he was not Iscariot. The names of the disciples don’t matter. None of them redeemed anybody. Jesus didn’t die so we could ignore everything He said and taught and just have pep rallies while we ignore what He said. If Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, we should study and teach what He said.

Verse 19 through 22

These were commercial fisherman. They fished with a net. They didn’t bait a hook. They threw a net in the water and sorted the fish into useable and useless piles. Some who teach the bible will have their minds blinded and ignore Christ. They will teach before they understand. When you hear them, and read the bible, you will wonder how they got their interpretation. We shouldn’t concern ourselves with whether or not a person comes to the right understanding. Just plant a seed and God will do the rest.

Verse 23 through 25

Jesus didn’t go around singing and trying to be the center of attention. We should pay attention to what He said.

God appeared to Moses for forty days and nights, he also fasted and God commissioned him. Conversely, Satan appeared to Jesus for forty days and nights, he also fasted and Satan commissioned him. Jesus was sent to finish Satan's work. Jesus was offered by Satan all the kingdoms of the world if he would serve Satan. He came out of that experience preaching the kingdom of God/Heaven, also called the New World Order. Jesus took the offer and the Kingdom of God is yet to materialize. When the true Messiah comes, the Kingdom of God will be established.

What is of utmost importance and never emphasized from the pulpit is that Jesus refused being a social catalyst or a political impetus for change. Buddha had the same temptation and refused. Real change does not happen in this world. They both agreed.

Buddha didn't rise from the dead.
