People ask for consensus, but the Democrat left's definition of consensus is that everything is done their way. It is the Democrats in the Congress, with the willing support of the mainstream media, who have engaged in all the name calling and demonizing of anyone who does not agree with them. Millions of citizens like me think we have no where to turn. Obama and the Democrats are taking the country over a cliff into a Marxist abyss. There are too many RINOS in the Senate and the Republicans in the House always cave under pressure. Consensus is not possible between those who believe in the principles of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and those who want to "remake America" into a country where the people who are totally controlled by a huge central government.

If the sheep don't learn to stand and fight together then we will all be doomed to destruction. We have to v**e these RINOs out of office in each and every e******n. We can access their records and if they lean to the left remove them. It should be simple only the ignorant will oppose this.

Lots of people say they want consensus, but they don't. I don't. Consensus today means that one side gives up and lets the other side control everyone and everything. And to top that off, DEMOCRATS never give up. They will stick at failing policies and programs until death do they part, but they will not change and they will not listen to logic.

The sooner the political right accepts the fact that the democrat party is no more, has become a c*******t party (and that is putting a polite twist to it) that is determined, at any cost, to control every aspect of America, the sooner we can get on with living. We do NOT compromise our principals. We do NOT accept anything that borders on socialism because the left uses incremental legislation against all good Americans by making us "feel guilty" to fight a simple little nothing "ban on Saturday night specials"(guns that the gangs may use). We SHOULD fight legislation like that tooth and nail. It is dangerous legislation for those of us who believe in the US Constitution.

I firmly believe that I no longer owe any allegiance to THIS government which is not MY government. THIS government is a rogue c**p by those who h**e America and all it stands for. I see no value in supporting it in any form or fashion.

If states would secede, the problem should be solved. Of course the federal government would fight that tooth and nail because it would weaken the federal government - exactly what needs to be done. Our government has become oppressive and evil and I'll be glad when it goes one step too far to recover from.

Interesting topic... I recently viewed a post from a democrat who basically said the same thing but from his point of view.. I feel that both sides failed to negotiate from day one and the power play expanded from there. The fact that we have gone this long without a functioning Government is just a sign on how strong the American people can be when they have to.... I am talking from the 09 e******n not the shutdown.

There are 2 possibilities on the horizon that might seal our fate as the "United States."
1. An economic meltdown of worldwide proportions. Russia, China and India think it's coming. They are spending some of their vast holdings of dollars to purchase real money, gold and silver. Who wants to be holding near worthless dollars when it loses its status as the world's reserve currency?
2. The U S fearing the above, could start WW3. That's not too far fetched. Russia has been warning us and Israel against going to war with Iran over its nuclear program.
Of course, any number of other scenarios (seen and unforeseen) could take us to this Armageddon.

How we emerge from either one of the above will be interesting. Look at the world map (especially Europe) of July, 1914 the eve of WW1. My idea is that we're living in the last days of our Nation as we know it for better or worse.
Consensus? We're simply too divided and adrift and without a strong enough leader who could forge one.

I agree with you but I do not think we cannot get a consensus because Obama is a weak leader. We cannot get one because he does not want one. He wants chaos to use for the opportunity to gain more control.

Thank you, Mr. Tree. Hitler used the Reichstag fire to gain near total power (Hindenburg was still alive at that time, I think) and I agree with you that Obama fantasizes about seizing more power. One of the most obvious ways to attain that end would be to say that he was forced by Republicans to radically cut entitlements. Overnight, millions of freeloaders would take to the streets and not peaceably either. It would make the r**ts of the 60's look like an ice cream social. All Obama would have to say to Congress is, "I alone can put a to stop this. I'll need temporary powers that are not even close to being constitutional to restore order."
There has always been an implied pistol at the head of Uncle Sam held by 10's of millions of welfare folks since the 70's. Mess with what they think is rightfully theirs and watch our cities get sterilized.
