"I give you a new commandment: to love one another as I have loved you": how is this a "new commandment," different than love your neighbor as yourself?

I have my insights on this question but I feel it is important for any who wish to respond to do their own searching. One thing I will add perhaps as a spoiler: this "new commandment" breaks the Golden Rule.

I wagered there would be no response to this thread. Why was I so sure? Because nearly every Christian here, as far as I can see, is concerned far more with judgment than mercy. If they are not roasting or boiling or hanging those of a different view, they feel useless.
