The first time I tried to play the Flute I couldn't even get out one note. Now I own nine in different keys. It helps me find happiness. It even connected me up with a cousin I did not know I had here. Turns out his 87 year old mothers mother was my cousin. Her parents had met at the Chemawa Indian school back in the day. I play in the longhouse at the Coos Tribe Rez each month with my cousin (our leader) He is also a very good flute maker. It has blessed my life in many ways. You know if you really like the fiddle you just need to practice. I bet you are better than you think. My best friend here (my friend for 40 odd years) took up the Ukelele. At age 79 he is now playing complete songs. What I am saying is don't give up. I can't describe the joy you will have once you get something down. Many blessings to you. Sqilxw

Hi, Tom. When I lived in Phoenix I attended almost every Pow-Wow often enough to truly appreciate the different songs and drums of the various tribes as there always was a competition. After a while, I grew to appreciate the Apache for their more intricate drums and their chosen colors of yellow and black. My musical training allowed me to detect the nuances in the music of the various tribes. I even joined in the dances where everyone was allowed. I still have an audio tape I recorded at one of the meetings.

I also create jewelry - not Native. In conversations with those with similar talents who were selling their creations, I was often asked if I were Cherokee. I guess I do have (sort of) international features.
