F-16 turned into a drone

Going the e-mail rounds:

Didn't realize drone technology had advanced this far so quickly.
They are using up their obsolete F-16s. Not a good day for the future of manned aircraft. Seems like the PILOT is on the endangered list.

This little four minute video is really something.

A first for a full size jet airplane. Thousands of planes that were graveyard bound, with costs in the hundreds of millions, can now be used as never before.

These F-16 Boeing aircraft have been in the bone yard at Davis-Monthan for 15 years, and are now being used as drones.

They've had remote F5 aircraft for decades.

But the tech is getting better.

The F35 and F22 have G-Inhibitors because the aircraft can withstand a high-G turn that would collapse the pilot's brain and k**l him instantly.

The F16's as drones are most likely a test run on a remote control F22.

The reason they're not really necessary is that right now F22s are safely superior with a human pilot.

This ain't anything new, except doing it with an F-16. Tyndal has been using different jets for targets since at least the 60's when I was stationed there. It goes back at least as far as using the F-86 Saber and T-33 as a target planes..................

I'll take your word for it. I am just impressed by drone technology.

It's leaps and bounds better. And improving at an exponential rate.

The F35 can be flown remotely without modification. BTW, if there is a power failure and the backup doesn't work, the planes cannot fly - at all.

I'd h**e to do CGS and take a few rounds in the belly in one of those. My guess is, they don't crash land well - they just crash.

I'm lucky to get my P3A out a mile at 400 ft. and bring it home. I wish they had shown the pilots and control setup.
