I am astonished by some posts on this site that suggest the US government should remain shut down in order to save money.

That is moronic. The shutdown costs 300 million a day. Here is the article from Bloomberg.

How could that be? Only nonessential personnel have been furloughed and the house just v**ed back pay for all. I'd call that a paid vacation. Aren't most gov't workers on constant paid vacation anyway? They feed on us.

President Obama doesn't negotiate with terrorist, or in this case American terrorist. You don't take the government down over a "constitutional law" a "settled law", and that is what the Tea Party did, just for their political gain. The president has tried to negotiate and has gotten nothing in return. Do you remember last years fiscal cliff? The Republicans got the CPI on SS they wanted and gave the president nothing in return. Now seniors will be getting less in their checks over the years.

I will have to thank the Republicans/Tea Party because within 24 hours of the shutdown $840,000 was donated to DNC. And 24 polls are showing that the Dems can win back the House in 2014, you do not take the President hostage without it being detrimental to your career.

I have heard they think they are protected because most are in highly gerrymandered districts, but they lost 10 of those seats in the 2012 e******ns because Republicans could not keep their mouth closed about "rape".

I thank you, this is really a scary time for the country as well as other nations. And it is uncalled for.

The Republicans have been trying to destroy Obama's presidency since the 2008 e******ns and I will not be surprised if they do default on paying our bills.

It is one thing to destroy America's economy, but destroying other nations economy? That should be a criminial offense.
