Don't Thank Obama for Cheap Oil

The big fall-off-your-chair moment during President Obama's State of the Union address came when he proclaimed: "We've cut our imports of foreign oil by nearly 60 percent and cut carbon pollution more than any other country on Earth. Gas under two bucks a gallon ain't bad, either."

Sure, Mr. President. Take a bow for the smashing success of the very domestic oil and gas industry that you have tried to destroy.

Even Obama couldn't carry this off. The smirk on his face as he sang the praises of the oil and gas industry was unmistakable.

Right after Obama boasted of these low gas prices, he reverted back to form, by sermonizing:

"We've got to accelerate the t***sition away from dirty energy" -- by which he means f****l f**ls. Then the hammer came down: "I'm going to push to change the way we manage our oil and coal resources, so that they better reflect the costs they impose on taxpayers and our planet."

So, 30 seconds after toasting lower gas prices, he pledges to find ways to make gas more expensive.

The irony of the Obama war against f****l f**ls is that the shale oil and gas revolution in America has saved Obama. During his first term, all the net new jobs created in America came from oil and gas as fracking took off in Texas, Oklahoma, North Dakota, West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Obama owed his re-e******n to the frackers, but instead he and his Environmental Protection Agency have tried to shut them down.

The EPA has issued three regulations in the last year -- the clean power plant rule, the methane rule and tougher clean air statutes -- that have begun to shut down f****l f**l production in America, as planned.

How bad are these rules? According to Harold Hamm of Continental Resources, a major driller in North Dakota: "These rules and red tape are k*****g us. They are raising our costs at a time when oil prices are low, and margins are already thin. This means layoffs of workers." Obama seems to be doing exactly what the Saudi oil sheiks are trying to do: shutting down fracking in America.

Obama won't allow drilling on federal lands. He wants to raise taxes on oil and gas production. He won't give the go-ahead to the Keystone XL pipeline, or any pipelines for that matter, and he just handed out hundreds of millions of dollars to keep the solar and wind industries from bankruptcy. Other than that, he's pro-oil and pro-gas.

He also neglected to mention that the major reason that U.S. carbon emissions are falling is that cheap and clean-burning natural gas, due to shale drilling, is becoming the No. 1 source of electricity production in America. The lesson: Free markets and innovation are almost always the best way to clean the environment.

If Obama's vision of an American energy future is fulfilled, the price of oil and gas will skyrocket -- again. He'd like that to happen. This is the only possible scenario that makes g***n e****y financially feasible.

One last point about low gas prices. How come when oil prices rise, the entire industry is accused of price fixing to gouge consumers? But if the industry has the monopolistic powers to keep prices as high as possible, why aren't they doing that now? The answer is in the new era of shale oil and gas this a brutally price-competitive industry -- unlike in the past, where the OPEC monopoly was able to fix prices. OPEC can't manipulate prices now, because the U.S. will soon be the world's largest producer. All the more reason to let the domestic oil and gas industry flourish.

For now, Obama, unbelievably, will hog the credit for lower gas prices that he never wanted in the first place, while he finds every way possible to make gas more expensive in the years to come. No wonder v**ers have grown so cynical of the political class.

Presidents have little impact on the economy but always get the blame so always take credit if something good happens. The thing is, while this will lead to cheaper gas it will also lead to layoffs of high paying jobs that will help lead us into a recession. So cheap oil is good but recessions are bad so be careful what you pick...

The cheaper the gas is the better for the American consumer. I don't care who gets the credit or blame just keep the price down where it belongs.

JMHO: President Obama didn't tried to destroy the OIL and Gas companies, the Oil and Gas companies are trying to destroy the U.S.A. with their pollution and dirty money. We can't change U.S.A. corrupt system of government if politicians Republicans & Democrats are taking money from Corporations and the special interest to be elected to help the 2% wealthiest Americans only.

Damn, PeterS, you finally posted a comment that actually makes sense...to a point. Presidents do have an impact on the economy when they increase (or decrease) taxes, increase government regulations and red tape, increase the national debt, etc, etc. Obama has done little to get this stagnant economy going...he could very well hand the next president a recession.

So, all those lay offs, companies going bankrupt, boom towns becoming ghost towns, stock market declining rapidly, etc, is okay with you? Hey, I love to pay less for gas at the pump too, pal...but, I also understand the overall economic impact it has too. All you lefties care about is yourself...and, you clowns call conservatives greedy...look in the mirror, pal.

T***h be known he and his party have done several things to hinder gas and oil because he's in bed with CLEAN energy. Nothing wrong with clean but when tax payer dollars (millions) are thrown at these companies and they end up bankrupt on tax dollars rather than investor money there is something very wrong.

Extracting Oil is mining. Mining booms then busts. As a construction worker for over 40 years I can tell you that when a job is done it is done and you move on. That is the way it is and has always been. PAL.

You might look at reality and reconsider whether presidents have or do not have an impact on the economy. They are prime factors affecting the economy, and their decisions can affect the economy long after they are out of office. Carter for instance, devastated the economy and his Community Reinvestment Act set the table so Clinton's push to put unqualified buyers into houses could create the 2008 meltdown. Consider how Reagan turned Carter's economy around and created a boom that lasted until the dot com bubble burst. Consider Obama's directly causing workforce participation to decline, welfare roles to skyrocket, and on and on. Presidents are critical to the economy.

Agree, president don't have direct effect on the economy but indirectly they can have great effect on it, good and bad.

You must be into oil and gas jmho. You want the citizens of the US to pay higher for oil than they should just to "help" those in that business or are dependent upon that industry. You sound positively liberal!!

So, that makes the layoffs and bankruptcies just fine with you? Eh, pal? How about the going back on dependency of foreign oil? That bother you? Of course not, because you're only interested in YOU, and your pocket! typical hypocrite libtard.
