I found out the hard way and have given this advice to my siblings and found it works. When your kids call you and it ain't about baby sitting their kids or bailing them out financially, it is about you listening to them vent about their troubles. They don't want you to give them advice, you ain't smart enough, you old goat. They want you to listen. That is it.

If you combine the calls from adult children to the even worse calls from senile elderly parents, a nail in your head along with a screwdriver down the throat might just lighten the mood. The drink, not the tool.
