Early Thursday morning, Potomac Research Group analyst Greg Valliere predicted that if the debt-ceiling deadline grew closer, President Barack Obama would play his “trump card” in the debate. He would remind seniors that if Congress doesn’t raise the debt ceiling, seniors wouldn’t get their Social Security checks.

“GOP strategists like Karl Rove surely know that it’s just a matter of time before President Obama throws a game-changer — warning senior citizens that their Social Security checks won’t be mailed because of John Boehner."

A few hours later, Obama did just that during a speech at M. Luis Construction Company in Rockville, Md. He spent much of the speech warning that while the ongoing government shutdown was damaging, failure to raise the debt ceiling by an Oct. 17 deadline would be even worse.

This is so funny, Obama, without his teleprompter is lost for proper words. I have never seen such a childish man.

Social security checks should be sent out because people have paid in to that system. However, Snap benefits, SSI payments, bank bailouts,farm subsidies, etc, all forms of redistributive payments should be withheld. This would bring the whole problem of the nanny state to the forefront force a debate on resolving our problems.

Yes, with a government shutdown, you will get SS checks. What Obama was talking about is the refusal to raise the debt ceiling. Different cat all together. Debt ceiling is paying the check for the bills we have ALREADY spent. If the US defaults on its debts on October 17th, social security checks will not go out. Let see how many TP'ers feel that strongly about Obamacare to give up their social security checks. You do not understand that the TP'ers are playing with fire with this shutdown.

Is the disability in your head? Social Security is direct deposit. If you're still getting your Social Security by mail delivered check, it shows me that you're not capable of taking care of your affairs. Everyone I know that is paid by direct deposit received their monthly payment.
