Respect
Respect is a two-way street. It is a mistake to expect to be respected when you don’t give any to anyone else. Read Luke 6:31. It is the same with forgiveness; if you want it given to you, then you must give it.

We are told in the scriptures not to be a respecter of persons in judgment. Everyone should be treated the same. We are also only required to forgive those who truly repent. God does not exonerate the guilty, those who will not repent or having committed a deadly sin. If a sin is forgiven, in the eyes of God it is also to be forgotten and never mentioned again.

Giving another respect does not entitled oneself to the expectation of its return. As a Christian, we give it because the other is imago dei, not for some quid pro quo of relationship. Turn the other cheek deals with this specifically. It is not a two-way street, in my eyes, though there may be instances where it is good to voice such an expectation. Expectations are, in general, nasty things to be avoided.

There is no such thing as respect. What in God's name is respect?

:( Do you really believe there is no such thing as respect? If so, then you will never receive any respect--from yourself or from anyone else, kind sir. Are you happy now?

Think about what the word means. Why is it necessary? Respect hinders full relationships, conversations, and healing. Respect is a silly affectation.
