Repentance
Why Jesus and John the Baptist did began their ministry preaching repentance? They wanted everyone to know that they were doing things incorrectly. That they were being taught by the unlearned, and that the way they were living their lives was not pleasing to God. To repent involves a process. First you have to make an honest assessment as to what motivates your decisions. Then you have to see how things would be better if you had been trying to please God. (If it doesn’t seem like trying to please God would be better, just keep living) Then we must do better. Your repentance shouldn’t lead to listening to songs; you should become a better person to be around. Making emotional decisions will do more harm than good, it is better to think things through. When you repent, you make a complete turnaround. The things you used to do, you don’t do anymore. Ephesians 4:28 says let him that stole steal no more. Repentance becomes more sensible as we mature. In fact, verses 25 – 32 describe a Christian life. Remember James 4:11 and 12. Be aware of satan‘s tricks; he will dig up a diaper you soiled as an infant and try to say you have no bladder control. Putting emphasis on the action while really hoping no one realizes we all come into this world as infants. We have all soiled diapers. The point is all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Everyone has done something. Your walk and relationship between you and God is just that, between you and God.

Repentance is a four step process. 1) Remorse for your sin, 2) Confession to the person you've sinned against, 3)Restitution to make amends, and 4) change and not repeating sins, which is the most important. If we fulfill these requirements our sins will be forgiven and forgotten. Nobody is perfect, we have all sinned to some degree or another including the Messiah. There is iniquity in his youth.

 Thanks for the reminder Susan. Humans who heard your advice may also benefit by understanding (a) the meaning of the "scary" word "sin" is "...to miss the mark" i.e. a mistake; and (b) that there is no "sin" (mistake) that is "worse" than any other. The One God Is Perfect. That means all His children who want to re-join The One God must strive for that same perfection--while down here on this material training ground. Christ Jesus led the way by setting the example how to do that: Love one another.

The Messiah is God incarnate and he is not perfect. He is subject to and bound by the flesh. Psalm 119:96. "I have seen an end of all perfection: but thy commandment is exceeding broad". God in spirit form cannot sin and is holy. The Messiah has and will make atonement for the sin in his life and has become holy. He also will make "intercession for the transgressors". Isaiah 53:12. He cannot blame someone for something he has done himself. There will come a time when we will all be holy. Exodus 19:6. "And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation".

Metanoia: change of heart. That is repentance, acting differently.
