Overcomers
The word sounds like an obstacle has been put in your path, that something or someone was opposing you and you didn’t give up, you overcame. In fact blessings are promised to the overcomers in all seven churches in Revelation. Revelation 12:11 describes how overcomers overcome. The list includes three criteria and the first has been done for us. They are the blood of the lamb, the word of their testimony, and they weren’t afraid to die. Nothing is said about walking right, talking right, staying right, praying right or smoking. I don’t know how we consider smoking a sin. No one smoked at all in the whole continent and Jesus says there is nothing you put in the body that defiles you, the things you do defile you in Matthew 15:11. In Mark 7:15 says, “There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile a man but those things which come out of him”. It is stupid to think God didn’t like your smoking but adultery is acceptable. I’ll put a bullet beside each church.
· Ephesus – eat from the tree of life. The tree of life is mentioned in Geneses 3:22. If you ate from it you would live forever.
· Smyrna – not be hurt by the second death. When you follow Christ you only die once. This is the same gift.
· Pergamus – get to eat the hidden manna and given a white stone with a new name. This manna may not be physical. It may refer to information.
· Thyatira – power over nations and the morning star. We will see what this means when we get there.
· Sardis – dressed in white, name not blotted out of the book of life, confessed before God. This may include their testimony as Christ said, “if you confess Me before men, I’ll confess you to My Father” in Matthew 10:32 and 33, Mark 8:38, and Luke 12:8 and 9.
· Philadelphia – will be made a pillar in the temple of God; on them will be written God’s name and city.
· Laodicea – sit with Christ on His throne
