New wine old bottles
First I will state bottles would have better translated wineskins. It was common in biblical times to let grape juice turn into wine in the skin of an animal. They normally used a goat or sheepskin. To make the wineskin they would kill the animal, cut off the head and feet. Then they would save the skin in as large a piece they could. The skin would be tanned and the pieces sewn together and the narrow opening would be tied off so that the wineskin could be used for drinking. In time, the skin would become hard and lose its elasticity. Old wineskins were inappropriate for storing new wine or grape juice. During the fermentation process carbon dioxide is produced. If a new wineskin is used the skin would stretch to accommodate the expanding gas. An old wineskin would simply burst and the wine lost. Combining new wine and old wineskin would just make a mess. In like fashion you cannot have the best of both worlds. Friendship with the world is enmity toward God. Those in the religious hierarchy didnt recognize Christ. If you are following Christ they wont recognize you either. If you study the bible and try to apply it to your life your thinking will be radically different from those who promote traditions of man. The old way of doing things is to follow the traditions of man. It is a new thing to read the word of God and let the Holy Spirit speak to your heart.
