Leaven of the Pharisees

Leaven of the Pharisees
Jesus said this in three gospels; Matthew 16:5 – 12, Mark 8:13 – 21, and Luke 12:1 – 3. That makes it one of the more important lessons. Leaven has the effect of baking powder and yeast. Its main use is to raise dough and make the dough manageable. Why did Jesus say beware of the leaven of the Pharisees? When asked by satan to turn stones into bread Jesus quoted from the Old Testament scripture in Deuteronomy 8:3 that man doesn’t live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. In other words there is more to life than just eating and drinking, we should make good choices. Doing things God said to do and avoiding things God said to avoid is the best decision. I have figured that out after experiencing life for fifty years but I would have saved money and years of my life if I had made decisions to please God in the first place. I won’t go into detail. Let’s go back to the lesson. Like yeast enables dough to be more pliable religion has distorted the true message of the bible. Organized religion had changed the meaning of God’s message. The traditions of man had made the word of God of no effect. What Jesus meant is explained in Matthew 5:12. Jesus was referring to the doctrine or message of the Sanhedrin, what they were promoting was not what God meant. Today the doctrine of organized religion tells us that we are saved while we ignore every sermon Christ preached, parable He taught, and miracle He performed. We are allowing organized religion to lead us down a path God never meant for us to travel. The sinner’s prayer adds to the bible. Scriptures are linked together that have nothing in common and weren’t meant to go together. The only way the bible should be taught is chapter by chapter and verse by verse. We are calling ourselves sinners even though we haven’t sinned. God is not looking for a reason to lump us in with murderers and thieves.

Leaven of the Pharisees br Jesus said this in thre... (show quote)

The leaven of the Pharisees was spiritual pride. They created so many laws over the Sabbath, it was impossible to keep. The Pharisees created so many laws, it was impossible for them to see love of neighbor.

"God is not looking for a reason to lump us in with murderers and thieves": he does not have to, we are already there.
