Fear not!

This is repeated, in some form, 365 times in the Bible. I did not count them but relied on several sources for that number.

Fear and practicality are always linked. What may seem like just reasonable precautions is a distrust in God, and it is very convincing. Bearing arms in Church is an abomination. Security cameras and checking bags disgraces our faith in Christ.

I read the Bible through every year and have never come across any scripture that condemns bearing arms in church. There is no condemnation in Christ. Do you remember in the garden of Gethsemane, just before the Roman soldiers came to take Jesus away, Jesus told his disciples to go get some swords? I do agree that fear is not good. Fear is not a spirit of the Lord.

"Fear not" is the scripture, x 365, that condemns the fear that brings arms into the Church.

Any reading of where Jesus says "to get some swords" as meaning self-defense are ridiculous. The disciples reply, "We have two" and Jesus replies, "That is enough." For twelve apostles or more? Scholarship on this section states that Jesus is annoyed with his followers' lack of understanding on this point. When Jesus says, "That is enough," it is his frustration on their short-sightedness and lack of knowledge. According to the OT, he will be led to trail by 'A REBELLION OF ARMS," and for this two swords are enough.

 Thank you and that was very thoughtful. But, I guess the Bible has nothing to say about having arms in church. I am glad we have the freedom to carry in church. I am glad some of my Christian brothers are also cops or military and trained for crisis situations and are free to carry in church. It is such a blessing. God protects us , but also provides for us to protect ourselves and others. God is good, all the time.

The names of those who will be written in the Book of Life are the righteous meek who love and fear God, and think upon his name. This Book will be written at the end, after the death of the Messiah and before the resurrection. It's also called the Book of Remembrance. Even the Messiah fears God and it is a fear of punishment and retribution.

Luke22:51. Any sane reading of that context clearly shows one it is not about self-defense; such a conclusion is utterly unsupported.

Points to consider: a) they have two swords and Jesus says "This is enough": for what? Not self-defense. They are being sent out in twos: how could two swords help? How could they be "enough"? Look at Isa53:12. This is what this passage refers to: any arms makes Jesus to be counted amongst the transgressors worthy of death by Rome, as foretold.

-------------

How about the verses where Jesus tells us, that when struck on one cheek, to turn and offer the other? How about the verse where Jesus tells us to "love our enemies?" How about turning swords into plow-shares? How about where Jesus tells us that, by being His followers, we should know and expect that we will be persecuted and put to death? Does He say to rise up against our oppressors?

In any of these examples does Jesus tell us to go arm ourselves? We're supposed to be people who represent the Prince of Peace, not the Prince of War. Where in the Scriptures is it said that Jesus "was carrying?" Being God, Jesus could've destroyed anyone who tried to do Him harm before it was time to be arrested. Are we ever told why the disciples had the 2 swords they had in Gethsemany?
