John 9
You should have an Old King James bible with this. First read the verses and then read the comments.
Verse 1 and 2
We all have the illusion of being in control. We want to believe that present circumstances are caused by past sins. God has already said in the 18th chapter of Ezekiel that children aren’t punished for sins of the parents, and that parents aren’t punished for sins of children. Children may suffer from want and neglect if the parents want to behave like children but this is not divine punishment.

Verse 3 through 5
Jesus shows that a bad past can have a glorious future. God is in control and all things work for the good of them that love the lord and are called according to His purpose. It’s hard to fully appreciate something good unless you have had to endure negative situations. It’s hard to appreciate a good man unless you have had a bad one to compare him to.

Verse 6 and 7
With this healing there is no way he can know what Christ looks like.

Verse 8 through 12
The people don’t even think he is who he says he is, until he reassures them. Sight cannot be restored without divine intervention. Today we should liken giving sight to the blind to imparting knowledge to the uninformed. Unfortunately we have blind leading blind and we walk in darkness. We claim to believe in Jesus while we ignore every sermon He preached, parable He taught, and miracle He performed. This doesn’t make sense.

Verse 13 through 16
They are behaving as if Jesus did something bad. Jesus didn’t hurt anybody; He restored a man’s sight. They are mad because one of the 613 additions to the Ten Commandments was violated. They really had no interest in obeying God’s commandments, but were more interested in policing God’s word than following God’s word. What Jesus did makes them think. God appeals to your intellect.

Verse 17 through 23
The Sanhedrin never did anything to help anyone. Jesus heals and the Sanhedrin hurts. The blind man’s parents don’t want to be excommunicated. All they can attest to is that their son was born blind.

Verse 24 through 40
Most of us only hurt those who are close to us. Once the church has excommunicated you there is nothing else they can do. Ironically the man doesn’t find Jesus until the church has no more use for him. Those who think they are saved are actually lost according to Matthew 16:25, Mark 8:35, and Luke 19:24. The idea that we must do anything else to be saved adds to Jesus sacrifice on the cross. Jesus did not say, “That is all I can do” but, “It is finished”. We should read the word of God and let the Holy Spirit speak to our heart. Read the 23rd chapter of Jeremiah.
