Happy Holidays to you, Alicia~~

Thank you so much lindajoy, for your sensitive soul. I just love this season so much, I celebrate ALL the holidays, regardless of its derivation. After all, this entire season is celebrating the festival of lights --Christmas trees (candles), Chanuka (also candles) and Yule (return of the sun - again, candles and light).

While attending the Universal Unitarian Church services, the children were taught the Swedish way of celebrating Yule. On the Eve, ovens were going to prepare cakes or cookies, depicting cats which were considered good luck in every household. On the morning of Yule, the eldest daughter, dressed in white with a red sash and wearing a crown of candles, served the parents a breakfast of the treats from the oven. At the service, all the congregation received cat cookies. I so appreciated that church and, especially, the minister. The children learned about another religion as well as non-Western customs throughout the year.

Thank You Alicia and Your Welcome too......"Light" is always celebrated ........As are all Holidays, although this one markedly different in just loosing my Mother....

I love your recitation of the ceremony celebrated by the Swedish and am vaguely familiar with it as my Grandmother was Swedish and spoke of this custom..Not for she, but her family.....It always intrigued me..Then again, I am intrigued by customs of other Countries/Nations, period..A world of learning right there...( No pun intended)

I also have some limited knowledge of the Church you mention..From what I understand, it teaches more on spiritual growth than "a bible, perse"...Along with principles of life, itself, etc...Please correct me, I am mistaken..

Let this season be met with happiness and peace and may we all remember love is the greatest gift given.......

Sounds like a great concept of giving, both your time and your thoughts to prepare these treats.
May you have a blessed Christmas.

A merry Birthday Feast of Mithra to you also. It would be churlish of me not to respond.
May I take this opportunity to wish you, in advance, a happy Festival of Ishtar, later in the spring.

I'm so sorry for your loss. The loss of a mother is more than just one entity. You lose two plus: dear friend, solace giver, teacher, hurt healer, guide, and so many additional personalities.

The loss of my mother brings anger as she probably could have been saved. A stupid doctor (who was pinch hitting for our regular physician - and was also a cardiologist) assured me that Mom was suffering from indigestion so I left her at night without too much worry. T***h is that she was undergoing a c****ary infarction and died during the night. Do you wonder why I can't put too much faith in doctors until they've proven themselves to me. No cook-book doctors on my list. At my age, I can only count six that were worthy of the title. Sad comment, isn't it.

At any rate, through these holidays, meditate on your mother and all the beauty she brought to your life. It helps.

Thank you. But the group I am part of is of the Celtic tradition which celebrates different god representatives. But, of course, they all represent the same gods with different names. Have a wonderful holiday and don't forget to appreciate the Moon for without it, there would be no light at night.

I am truly sorry to hear of your loss as well..I completely understand your anger...I also hope you have been able to release it so it does not fester in you and ruin your souls delight..Enlightenment starts and stops with releasing so we may move forward...

Enough of all of this, we are here, we live what we choose and in that comes our Happiness~~ May yours be filled with much happiness always..

For our mothers, may we rejoice in having their love and shelter and guidance..We are what they helped mold us to be, after all..

One of the boys we work with. Pete has decorated his goats for Christmas. Tiny lights strung around their horns, blinking red and green. Wish he'd take a photo of it, it is a good laugh.

I wondered before in reading some of your posts...Very nice..I know little, but what I do know of your practice, I like........

By Adam Christianson

When harpers once in wooden hall
A shining chord would strike
Their songs like arrows pierced the soul
Of great and low alike

Aglow by hearth and candleflame
From burning branch ot ember
The mist of all their music sang
As if to ask in wonder

Is there a moment quite as keen
Or memory as bright
As light and fire and music sweet
To warm the winter's night?
