Spirit of God

There is much confusion about the effect of the Holy Spirit. Some think that it makes you have seizures, or sing and dance and worship God. We worship a God that we don’t obey. We think a relationship with Christ is possible while we ignore every sermon He preached, parable He taught, and miracle He performed. We are really wasting our time. Sometimes what we want to hear is not what we need to hear. It is taught that being saved will feel good, that being saved will have God give you stuff and that education and hard work are not necessary to raise the standards in your life, that everyone will like you and agree with your words. This belief is contrary to the fifth chapter of Matthew and the sixth chapter of Luke. The spirit of God is defined by the word of God. In 1 John 5:7 we see word and spirit are the same. In John 6:63 Jesus says the words He speaks are spirit. In Ephesians 6:17 the spirit of God is the word of God. In John 14:26 Jesus tells His disciples that the Holy Spirit will remind His disciples of the words He spoke. This is important for two reasons; 1. The disciples were young men when they were with Christ but old men when they wrote their gospels. 2. Printing presses would not be invented and the bible would not be translated for about 1500 years. Jesus was speaking to His disciples but today if we don’t read our bibles we don’t give the Holy Spirit anything to work with.

My experience is that we truly begin to know God through reading His Word. As we read, the Holy Spirit speaks to us and teaches us. I love it. Many times I pray before reading and ask God to reveal what He wants me to learn and help me to truly understand His Word. I do believe the Bible is the Living Word and God will use the same scriptures during our lives to impress different things upon us at different times. But I notice the Holy Spirit at work when I pray as well. In fact there have been times in my life when it was quite obvious to me the Holy Spirit was praying for me on my behalf. That is a beautiful wonderful experience. I have noticed that when witnessing or ministering to others, the Holy Spirit will give me the right words to say and even provide scripture that I did not necessarily purposefully memorize. I love it. Over just these last few years I have begun to talk and listen to God all through the day. I seem to recognize the Holy Spirit teaching me more often than I used to. Thank you for your post. This is a great thing to ponder and I hope many more of our brothers and sisters will see your post and join in with their thoughts. Thanks

Receiving the holy Spirit causes visions to the young, and dreams to the old. Joel 2:28. It is a rare thing and only happens when we open our eyes and ears to the truth. We have to overcome being deaf and blind which are spiritual conditions. Proverbs 1:23. "Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you". When the Messiah comes, the righteous will be enlightened, but the wicked will remain in darkness.
