Christ and satan Luke
The order of the three trials is different in Matthew. The first question is the same in both gospels, but the last two are reversed in order. Also in this gospel satan leaves without being told to for a season. This means he left for a little while but came back later. The Greek translation suggests that satan could see he was getting nowhere and decided to come back later. Satan is like a lion seeking whom he may devour. When lions look over a herd, they look for the old, sick, and young because they are the easiest to catch. Jesus knows satan is an opportunist and shows how to defeat him. To combat satan and those influenced by him we need to understand the printed and canonized word of God. Knowledge of scripture is the gospel armor. Not having it is like going into combat in a leisure suit. If satan has deceived the whole world, then those that teach true scripture will not be well received by the biblically illiterate. The first thing that satan says is, “Since you are the son of God use your power to take care of your flesh”. Jesus never obeys satan. He uses scripture to show us how we can survive and thrive in these end times. The scripture he used is found in Deuteronomy 8:3. Man doesn’t live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Understanding God’s word is as important to our minds, lives, and souls as food is to our bodies. It adds not only years to our lives but life to our years. The next two temptations are in reverse order in Matthew. In the second trial in Luke, satan actually wanted Jesus to worship him. He offers Him all the cities of the world to sweeten the deal. We should recognize some things about cities; they contain more prostitutes, drug addicts, thieves, and other criminals than rural areas. satan may have thought this offering may have been appealing but it would have been disgusting. The idea that we should worship only God is expressed in Exodus 34:14. In fact, get a Strong’s Concordance and look up the word worship. It will help you understand the first of the Ten Commandments. The god that is praised in churches today is not the same God that spoke to Isaiah or that built this galaxy. Read Jeremiah 10:11. In the last trial in Luke satan tries to get Jesus to commit suicide trying to prove what he knows already. Satan is criminally insane and the only ones dumber than him are his children, followers, and those that think anything he does will amount to anything. The only thing used by Jesus to foil Satan’s temptations was the printed word of God. At the time this was the torah, which consisted of Genesis through Deuteronomy. The torah was written by Moses.
