If you see someone carrying a gun.

If you see someone carrying a gun and you have your gun--when should you shoot them, before or after they shoot you? I ask because in open carry states people can be carrying an AR15, or similar gun, can do so and you wouldn't know their intention until they started shooting. So should we shoot first and ask questions later or should we wait to see what they do giving them the benefit of the doubt?

Pete, Pete, Pete, get a freakin grip, man. Enough with the stupid questions.

Good Lord, these pictures you paint are coming from a place that has absolutely no connection to reality. Man, talk about tunnel vision, you give us one obscure scenario that has no definition.

I see people carrying guns most every day. I see them in gun racks in their pickups, and I see pistols on their hips. Hell, I carry one, sometimes openly, sometimes concealed. I carry a 9mm handgun, sometimes an AR15 or a shotgun. Two years ago damn near everyone in our 4th of July parade was packing a firearm (the theme was a salute to the 2nd Amendment)

C'mon man, someone about to do violence is a very different animal than just "someone carrying a gun".

Listen to the voice of reason

The best thing to do is call the cops remembering to say you feel threatened or felt the guy with the AR-15 was acting in a menacing way. If people act strangely the cops can and will stop them and investigate. For instance when a weird guy like America Only is wandering around a public park or playground wearing leather chaps a horsetail butt plug and gorilla mask he may be within his rights but normal folks will feel their kids are threatened and call the cops. The cops in turn will detain him to find out what's up. If he gives them lip about having every right in the world to creep around playgrounds in such an outfit and fails to follow their directions they may feel threatened and need to taser him. The exact same thing is true of some asshole walking around in public in an urban area with a slung assault weapon. It may be legal but it sure as hell is not normal regardless of the lip he gives about the second amendment. After a couple of 50,000 volt jolts he will likely leave the gun home where it belongs.

Well I live in Dallas and people carrying guns out in the open is still very rare. Not everyone is a good ole boy, lives in the country, and was born with a gun in their hand. And with lines winding around gun shops now there are clearly going to be a lot of newbies who need to know when they are supposed to pull the trigger. So the question isn't stupid. Put yourself in the position of a beginner. You are scared s**tless, which is why you bought a gun in the first place, and now you see two men dressed in black with assault type rifles and they come busting though the doors--at least they seem to open the doors abruptly. What do you do? Do you freeze--in which case inaction might cost you your life--or do you pull out your gun and pull the trigger?

I am asking the question because the more fear permeates our society the more likely people are going to act in a manor rational people wouldn't...

Keep your fear beads warm, as of Jan 1 we in Texas will be able to open carry our sidearms also, you may want to consider moving to California or some other liberal state where it is nice and safe.....oh wait, people get shot there all the time by the lovely residents. I am sure you can find a safe place to go, hey!!! Canada is an option.

Things have changed so much. I used to go hunting almost every day after school. I was the oldest of 8 kids and we needed the meat. When I walked down my road with a rifle or shotgun nobody paid attention they knew I was just a h****r. The other fellas in my area were doing the same. Nowadays there would be a panic. Terrorists and insane k**lers have taken a lot from us. 99.9% of all gun owners are not a threat but events have placed doubts in the minds of citizens from the police on down. Now we have a big division on gun control because of that fraction of a percent. A panicked public is what the terrorist wants. Why give them what they want?

Pretty much Tom, i lived in a residential neighborhood growing up in Texas, never a second glance as we young kids walked to the woods with our 22s or shot guns. At my high school there were rifles in every pickup back window...never an issue, the principal would even let us out early in bird season...he loved a good over, under and would check it out .....those days are gone due to an i***t culture on both sides.

There is a big difference between walking down a country road in upstate Wisconson with a bird gun over your sholder and some assholes pacing the sidewalk in front of a mosque or women's health care clinic in Downtown Phoenix with Ak-47s. It is the assholes trying to make a point who are making it tough for sportsmen. The PTA mom who sees the clods in camo suits parading in her suburban neighborhood armed to the teeth is going to demand a crackdown and she is likely to find plenty of company in her quest.

You frckin i***t you obviously have no idea about self defense or why we carry a gun. Let me give you a short lesson! Have you heard of the police? They carry guns, they only pull their gun if their life is in danger or a persons life around them is in danger. If you pull your gun you have to be ready to use it, otherwise why carry a gun! To get a license to carry a gun you have to go and take a class to have all this explained and be proficient with a gun! So, if you love your family and if you don't want to be a statistic you carry a gun!

I have carried a gun all my life and will do so for the rest of my life! Whenever our security guys went out to meet Arabs in the countries I have served (even 20-30 years ago) we loaded up our handgun magazines with hollow points and or exploders! To make sure that if you have to use your gun it was one shot one k**l!
This was a short lesson for I***TS!

It takes less than a minute to k**l 20 or so people with an automatic weapon. Time yourself and see how long it takes you to chamber a round, put the safety off and fire. That will give you an idea of how many will die, if you wait until they open fire to make up your mind. Come to think of it, EVERBODY should do that self test - since the States and everybody else is ignoring the "well regulated m*****a" portion of the 2nd amendment.

That's what puzzles me. All the hoo ha about the 2nd amendment and "rights" - completely ignoring the WHOLE amendment. I personally thinks it's i***tic to keep saying "the Constitution gives us the right to bear arms" - while ignoring the REST of the Constitution - which spells out responsibilities as WELL as rights.

Nope, it would be a question any gun owner would ask, first you quickly call 911, report the perp, then prepare to protect yourself and others until the Calvary arrives. end of story.
