My wife is a cancer survivor and takes numerous medications that she basically can not live without. She is very concerned about how Obamacare will affect her prescription costs. I have been trying to find any concrete information on how Obamacare will cover long term prescription needs, but have come up pretty much empty.
Mostly as with everything else about Obamacare we will have to wait until it is fully implemented to find out.
"We have to pass it to know what's in it". Well it has been three years and we still do not really know what is in it.
I did find this site and what it says is quite alarming:
http://pharmacycheckerblog.com/prescription-drug-prices-coverage-under-obamacare-do-you-need-to-worry It says that under Obamacare only one drug within a category will be covered (only if it is on a list of approved drugs). My wife takes four medications within the same category and none of them are cheap (the cheapest is $195 a month). Our current insurance covers 2/3 of all prescription costs but is quickly becoming unaffordable for us. If our premiums keep rising at the current rate our insurance will be close to $800 a month for our family of three by 2015.
We can not afford that, no freaking way! Especially if we have to cover over $1000 per month worth of medications out of our own pocket.
The waiting to see if that's covered or will I have to pay for it will put many middle class folks in the poor house and I fully believe that wasthe intent. wife has COPD and takes three of which the lowest is $168 and the other two are both better than $300 each. She worked out a deal with one of the makers for $155 monthly out of pocket while she's waiting for a reply from the other manufacture.

One of the real shortcoming of the ACA, they did not succeed in drug cost reform. That fell during a compromise during the original debates. I am hoping that means no negative changes also. No end to drug company gouging. Sorry I can not find anything more enjoyable to share. Hope this will be one of the first things "fixed" in the near future..Good luck on this...and your new status as a contractor..
