We usually think of turkeys not beavers on Thanksgiving but it's our dam-building friends that have given their name to the bright full moon we're seeing this week.
The Beaver moon will be out Wednesday and Thursday (Thanksgiving night.)
The name comes from the increased activity of the furry critters with the full moon, and the need for Native American h****rs to set out traps before the winter freeze. According to the Farmer's Almanac, the Beaver Moon will achieve fullness on Wednesday and then be about 98 percent full on Thanksgiving night.
The Beaver Moon is also known as the Frost Moon or the Geese Going Moon. On Thanksgiving, the moon will rise about 5:56 EST.
The next special full moon will be the Full Cold Moon on Dec. 25 Christmas night. Also known as the Full Long Nights Moon or the Moon Before Yule, the name comes from the long, cold winter nights lit by the moon. The Full Cold Moon also takes a high trajectory across the sky, Space.com reported, due to its opposite location to the low sun.
