Hebrews 13:2

"Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares"

One morning at WalMart, a young woman started talking to me. It must have been too early for most people as there didn't appear to be any others around. She was saying she had back problems, so I suggested some exercises that my help. She said she knew about them, but in her case they didn't help. We chatted for a few minutes, and as she walked away, she turned and said, "Thank you for talking to me." As I thought about her 'Thank you,' I was amazed - no one had ever thanked me for just taking the time to talk to them. For me, that 'thank you' was a blessing. It made my day.

You never know when a kind word, or offering a moment of your time may bless someone else. It pays to be open to the possibilities as you may be the one to receive the blessing. With that said, I leave you with this poem.

To see an angel, you must see another’s soul.
To feel an angel, you
must touch another’s heart.
To hear an angel you must listen to
both.
~ Author Unknown

Since this is Veteran's Day, I salute all our veterans. May I remind you to thank all veterans you may meet, and always thank God for the dedication of these men and women, and offer them His blessings.

Amen!!

In this busy world when many are self absorb or preoccupied with the day's tasks we often neglect to think of others...people who feel invisible to the world...

Often a warm smile, or kind gesture, merely holding a door open for someone, or a few kind words can make someone else's day. It only takes a moment to possibly make a difference.

God Bless our Veterans today and everyday.

b Hebrews 13:2 /b br br "Be not forgetful ... (show quote)

I have a story. There was this highly manipulative woman who was coming to our Wednesday Bible Study but I was unaware. Apparently she had lied to several members and gotten financial donations for bogus claims. Action against her attendance was to be discussed the night she approached me. We talked after the meeting and the subject of trust came up. She asked me, "How do you know when to trust someone?" I answered, "I don't trust anyone." This seemed to surprise (disappoint?) her. After a moment she asked, "Is that Christian?" I said, "Trust has nothing to do with giving. It is not conditional, as love is not conditional. 'Ask, and you shall receive, knock, and the door will be open to you.' I see no qualifiers in that." Then she told me a story about not having the money for her daughter's medicine. "How much do you need?" I asked, finally aware this sounded like a scam. She acted like she was calculating the cost for a moment, then said, "Well, I guess, about two hundred." I said, "Okay," and wrote her a check for three hundred. After looking at the check she said, "Thank you, but I only needed two hundred for my daughter." "I know," I said, "but what about you?" And she burst into tears, whooping grief where she could barely breathe and snot running down her nose. This went on for maybe ten minutes. When she finally recovered, she admitted in a great rush she had been lying and was homeless and had no daughter and was looking to score some meth. "Would a check for four hundred be better?" I asked. And she laughed hysterically, then threw her arms around my neck, got nose-to-nose, and asked, "Let me know your God."

In re-telling that story, as I have a few times, it seems that I am wise and good. That is not the truth. Grace had me. I was not acting from myself. Afterwards when I looked back on what happened between her and me, I felt like a fool. As soon as I had that first hint of a scam I should have confronted her. And thought to, then something else took over. It was not me. The words did not seem to be mine. It was almost like overhearing a conversation. At the end, I was stunned; had I put in my reasonable and cautious two cents, the miracle of her being open to accepting Christ would never have happened. By grace, I got out of the way.
