if I were a betting man
I'd lay odds (in Slats case)that it would be food rather than the guillotine or frying pan that caused the demise of our brother Texican Slat

I stayed in the USA but I did as I was ordered. I have seen some men who came back badly maimed and lost a few high school friends.. The sacrifices made by combat veterans have great significance. Support our troops
"Support our troops."
I can remember when we first went into Ahf-ghan-ee-staan (The Great Charlatan's pronunciation) there wasn't a car that didn't have one of those bow-style magnets on its rear trunk. Nowadays it's a rarity. In fact. you can't find them anymore--even on US military bases!

I stood up, I showed up,
I stepped forward,
I raised my right hand,
I stood in the gap,
I walked in the fire.
I did not run,
I did not hide,
I did not evade.
Consequently...
I have nothing to prove,
No one to convince.
Those who matter already know.
Those who don't, never will.
Nice! So true.

To All who served, regardless of capacity, You are ALL our hero's..The very reason our Country remains free!!!
To say Thank You seems so little but is meant most sincerely from my heart to yours...Respected and admired beyond any measure, You will always be the Proud, the Salvation and our greatest to admire!!!
How do you measure a soldier's sacrifice?
Is it by the number of friends and family left behind?
Is it by the months or years given in service?
How do you measure a soldier's courage?
Is it by the number of objectives completed,
Or by the number of bullets dodged or missions served?
How do you measure a soldier's honor?
Is it by the duty he or she volunteers for,
Or by the number of medals earned?
The simple t***h is that these things are immeasurable,
As is this country's debt to all who serve,
And pay the price for FREEDOM in this land.............author unknown~~

I just looked at my cap that says I was a Cold War Veteran and in the ASA, (notice the letters are very near NSA. I almost went that direction after separation)
I enjoyed my 10 months in Germany and 14 more in Italy. Well not so much Italy as there was a huge difference in the people of both those countries. I was stationed in heavily c*******tic areas in both countries. We weren't allowed to go to town on May 1 in either country since the c*******ts were out in force that day. I was in Italy twice on that date and the second one we were in town since we had been thrown off the base and had to rent a brand new house in Udine. We had some fun that second time around chasing c*******ts around.
