Obama Demands Background Checks for Responsible Gun Owners, But Not For Criminal Job Applicants

In his push to overhaul the American justice system, President Obama has requested that former prisoners not be asked about their criminal histories when applying for a job. However, responsible gun owners are still expected to undergo a background check before purchasing a new firearm because Obama believes in fairness.
According to an NBC News report, the president has asked Congress to "ban the box" which is described as "shorthand for prohibiting the government and its contractors from asking job applicants about criminal histories on applications."
The White House confirms that most federal agencies are already in compliance with Obama's request. It is also noted that criminal histories will eventually be asked for, but not until much later in the hiring process, according to NBC.
This must come as very good news for the 6,000 inmates just released over the weekend as the president's long-fought prison sentencing reform takes hold.
