Today in History

Today in History, in 1938, Orson Welles broadcast his famous "Martian Invasion" radio show that would become infamous for the panic it caused. The problem was, that while the show was billed as fictional at it's beginning, at 8:00PM, most of the listeners who overreacted were listening to another show that ended about 8:10 PM, and had no idea that the news broadcasts were f**e. They tuned in after listening to a popular comedy show that ran a little over.

The success of that broadcast caught Hollywood's attention, and Welles was soon given almost free reign in the making of 1941's 'Citizen Kane,' considered by many as the greatest movie of all-time. It was 'out of this world' great. :-D

War of the World's is one of my favorite all time movies. The newer version with Tom Hanks does not even compare to the original.

Yes, Tom Cruise. I stand corrected and you are right, it does not change my opinion. I really like that whole period of scifi films. And of course the atom bomb and our fear of nuclear war led to so many great science fiction films and of course lovable creatures, like Godzilla.
