Clinton’s a Liar, But We Already Knew That

If Kevin McCarthy accidentally let the cat out of the bag on B******i, the Republican-led House committee had an opportunity on Thursday to reaffirm to the American people that the investigation was about t***h, not politics. But over 11 grueling hours of confrontational interrogation, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton likely put this issue to bed for good.

It shouldn’t be too surprising. If the B******i committee had the goods on Clinton, we would have known it by now. The only possibility Thursday was that Clinton would somehow let her guard down and say something shocking. That was a slim thread of hope, though, because Clinton went into this knowing her dream of occupying the White House was h*****g in the balance. Trey Gowdy and the rest of the Republicans might have been able to score a career-making moment on live television, but the stakes were far higher for Clinton. And she came prepared.

This investigation, now four years in the making, is no longer interesting to the public. The media has seen to it that “B******i” is just another Republican conspiracy theory, and the comments by McCarthy put the final nail in the coffin. No one who is truly interested in what went down is fooled, but how many people does that description really encompass? Americans have a short attention span. We’re ready to move on.

Too bad, because it was more obvious that ever on Thursday that the Obama administration engaged in a political coverup following the attack. Clinton told her daughter, Chelsea, that “Al Qaeda just attacked our compound and we lost two good men” on the night of the assault. She put in a call to Egyptian Prime Minister Hesham Qandil the same night, and he informed her that the attack had nothing to do with any YouTube video. And yet, in public, the State Department and Hillary herself continued to insist that these were protest-driven murders for at least a week.

Why? Because there was an e******n coming up, and President Obama didn’t need his grand Osama Bin Laden victory ruined by an Al Qaeda attack. So instead of being straight with the American people, they concocted this foolishness about a YouTube video and a spontaneous demonstration.

Could more have been done to protect the Libyan post? Could lives have been saved? Did Hillary Clinton abdicate her responsibility as secretary of state? The questions are too esoteric and debatable to really hit home.

But if Americans place any importance whatsoever on a p**********l administration putting t***h above politics, B******i remains a dark moment in this president’s history. And if things go the way Democrats hope, it will be a dark moment in the next one’s as well.

What Does Hillary Have on Obama?

After endless months of speculation, Vice President Joe Biden announced Wednesday that he would not seek the Democratic p**********l nomination. He did so in grand fashion, presenting his decision from the White House Rose Garden, flanked by the president and his wife, Jill. Reporters, upon hearing of the surprise speech and its location, unanimously predicted that he was going to jump into the race. Because, after all, why set up this ceremonial spectacle just to announce that you’re not running?

But that’s exactly what he did. And he flummoxed reporters even more by delivering a speech that – given an edit or two – could have easily been used to launch a campaign. A long, policy-specific speech that even found room for a couple of sideways shots at Hillary Clinton.

“I don’t think we should look at Republicans as our enemies,” Biden said. “They are our opposition, they are not our enemies.”

At the Democratic debate, Hillary said she was proud of making enemies in the Republican Party.

But again, it comes back to the question: Why announce you’re not running while taking shots at the woman who is almost certainly going to be the Democratic nominee?

There are two ways to think about this. It’s all speculation, but these are the two explanations that make sense, absent some bombshell insider scoop.

The first possibility is that everything is just as it seems. This is the story most of the media is going with. Biden waited too long, he was too torn up about losing his son, and he simply ran out of time to launch an effective campaign. And as a consolation prize, Obama and the DNC said, “Joe, go out there and give the speech of your life. You’ve earned that much.”

Eh, it’s too pat. Too smooth. This is politics, and when things look funky, there’s usually a reason.

So there’s the second possibility. That Biden was determined to run, he wanted to run, and he was going to run…but Hillary sent a warning to Obama that scared him off. You have to remember who the Clintons are. These are a couple of the most ruthless political players to ever get in the game. We haven’t seen a lot of that this year because Hillary’s out there pretending to be this sweet grandmother who just wants what’s best for women. But you can bet that she and Bill have some secrets that Obama does not want them to share. She was inside this administration for four years and she knows where a few of the bodies are buried. She might have just told Obama that unless he wanted to end his White House tenure under a cloud of scandal, he’d better talk some sense into his VP.

That would also explain why Obama was out there with him in the Rose Garden, nodding as Biden warned Democrats not to run away from his record. This was Obama conceding political defeat but also reminding Hillary that he’s not going to go quietly.
