The Importance of Exercise

I was looking through some old files earlier today and came across this group of comments. Hope you enjoy.

The Importance of Exercise:

Walking can add minutes to your life..

This enables you at 85 years old

To spend an additional 5 months in a nursing

Home at $4,000 per month
-------------------------------------------------------------------
My grandpa started walking

Five miles a day when he was 60.

Now he's 97 years old

And we have no idea where the hell he is.
------------------------------------------------------------------
I like long walks,

Especially when they are taken

By people who annoy me.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The only reason I would take up walking

Is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.
************************************************
I have to walk early in the morning,

Before my brain figures out what I'm doing..
-----------------------------------------------------------
Every time I hear the dirty word 'exercise',

I wash my mouth out with chocolate.
----------------------------------------------------------
I do have flabby thighs,

But fortunately my stomach covers them.
********************************************
The advantage of exercising every day

Is so when you die, they'll say,

'Well, he looks good doesn't he.'
****************************************
If you are going to try cross-country skiing,

Start with a small country.
*************************************
I know I got a lot of exercise

The last few years,......

Just getting over the hill.
---------------------------------------------
We all get heavier as we get older,

Because there's a lot more information in our heads.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
**************************************
Every time I start thinking too much

About how I look,

I just find a pub with a Happy Hour

And by the time I leave,

I look just fine.
-----------------------------------------------
You could run this over to your friends

But just e-mail it to them!

It will save you the walk!

Every time I think about exercising I just make a phone call and a man shows up with a beer and a cigarette and talks me out of it.

I used to walk two miles every morning at a rate others couldn't seem to keep up with and felt so good that I cut back considerably. The summer after my heart attack and 6 by pass surgery I didn't do it all but the following summer I walked one mile in 15 minutes and that seemed to be pretty good. I was lifting weights all those years and cut back to lifting 3 days a week and riding my stationary bike the others and am still in good condition at 83. I don't intend to stop this regimen until the old bones just won't do it any more.

Hey, Alicia, that was a very funny grouping of reasons not to exercise. In my early 60s a chiropractor told me that I was looser than any of his 25 year old patients so I guess exercise wasn't hurting me.

don't stop Roy
as you know I'm 89 and I still walk at least 9 miles a week
and still do my weights in the gym
of course they aren't as heavy as they used to be
I jogged up to a couple years ago and my knees and soles of my feet started telling me that was enough
I will exercise until the old bod says no mas no mas
then I will seek that rocking chair

I tried to start walking again a year ago and my hips bothered me so much that I went to a physical therapist and she made me all well but I haven't started again. Now we are getting cooled off so I can start again and sure will do it because I don't want to spend the rest of my life sitting on my butt like most people this old do.

After 3 surgeries on my legs, I'm back again to cycling (on my 3-wheeler.) I started off easy by doing no more than a mile but I'm now up to 3 miles. I should stress that I have no additional gears. I plan to take care of that soon so that I can travel further and faster. With gears, I'll have no limits! ! ! ! !

It's absolutely necessary! After having involved myself in many forms of exercise, I've discovered that belly dancing is above and beyond all the rest because it exercises everything but your ear lobes. It works toward lengthening as well as strengthening the muscles while controlling all areas at will - and gracefully. And besides, it's FUN! Abdominal control guarantees women easier births. My latest class was thrilled to discover how one simple movement will move muscles they didn't know they had.

Back East I always had men in my classes who decided to join after their wives demonstrated what they had learned. I was privileged to study with a great Lebanese dancer, Ibrahim Farrar. He was a large muscular man with not an ounce of fat on him.
