Has anyone heard anything new about the nuclear meltdown at the Japanese energy plant damaged by the quake & tidal wave ?

I have two VANTAGE points if you will.
I do business in Japan. Most Japanese are skeptical about the response. But they have had for years a great skepticism about nuclear power. The authorities are doing the right thing, but beyond that it is mostly driven by a fear of getting caught rather than ethical personal approach. Otherwise, traveling there I don't hear anything bad such as cancer outbreaks, childhood leukemia, for instance.
Also, NHK news channel is carried on numerous PBS stations, in the morning and evening. It's hosted by english speaking anchors, and each week they discuss the status. It's pretty milk toast information, but there are many nuclear power plants that are closed.
I'd like to suggest you check out ENENews. Finally info in stead of the regular, common junk. Thanks

I'm with you, but traveling there gives me a good opportunity. There was even a person from our office whose family lived in the area. The Japanese have no respect for the authorities, since they change their stories every time someone challenges them.
The big concern is potential contamination. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone that is active in the Navy anymore. For instance, does our fleet avoid that part of the pacific. Have they moved any shipyards out of Washington state? The fallout can be gained from that kind of "telemetry". Or animal migrations, are any biologists seeing any changes to the ocean populations. Plutonium is some nasty s**t. My best friend wrote work packages while working in a Plutonium trigger facility that has long since closed. One mistake and you're either dead from the contamination or severely disabled the rest of your short life. None of this is to be taken lightly.
I work with a charitable org. I tried to contact folks in Japan's equivilant agency, the communication was immediately shut down, by whom I don't know. I'll look for any info you put up. Thanks
