I enjoy facts and intelligent discussion until it becomes silly hyper partisanship. Like comparing Limbaugh's addiction to prescription pain meds to his comments on drug users. My grandmother became addicted to pain meds when she had cancer and I would certainly not compare her to the common coke or crack-head. Common sense is all I ask.

As a liberal, I would be willing to discuss intelligently any of the many problems facing our country with any one. That's why I got on this forum to begin with.
However, unfortunately, I find little of that. No attempt to discuss, face facts, or be rational, just hatred and name calling.

A little aside, here. At one of my previous jobs, we had a little lunch group. Myself, a Christian; John, a Jehovah's Witness; and another man (I forget his name), a Socialist. Wow, did we have some discussions, all friendly.

Rush Limbaugh and prosecutors in the long-running prescription fraud case against him have reached a deal calling for the only charge against the conservative commentator to be dropped without a guilty plea if he continues treatment, his attorney said Friday.

Limbaugh turned himself in to authorities on a warrant filed Friday charging him with fraud to conceal information to obtain prescriptions, said Teri Barbera, a spokeswoman for the Palm Beach County Jail. He and his attorney Roy Black left about an hour later, after Limbaugh was photographed and fingerprinted and he posted $3,000 bail, Barbera said.

Prosecutors' three-year investigation of Limbaugh began after he publicly acknowledged being addicted to pain medication and entered a rehabilitation program. They accused Limbaugh of "doctor shopping," or illegally deceiving multiple doctors to receive overlapping prescriptions, after learning that he received about 2,000 paink**lers, prescribed by four doctors in six months, at a pharmacy near his Palm Beach mansion.

Limbaugh, who pleaded not guilty Friday, has steadfastly denied doctor shopping. Black said the charge will be dismissed in 18 months if Limbaugh complies with court guidelines.

"Mr. Limbaugh and I have maintained from the start that there was no doctor shopping, and we continue to hold this position," Black said in an e-mailed statement.

Limbaugh spokesman Tony Knight said the commentator signed the agreement Thursday, and that it called for him to enter the not guilty plea. "It's not in the system moving toward trial. It was all a formality. It's a concluded deal," Knight said.

Limbaugh has a huge audience -- 14 to 20 million people listen to his show every week, reports CBS News correspondent Bob Orr.

Mike Edmondson, a spokesman for the state attorney's office, said prosecutors had not yet received the signed agreement.

"I am not disputing the facts, the conditions that Black represented, but until his client signed the agreement, we don't have a full agreement," Edmondson said. "I am sure it's just a timeline issue."

He refused to comment further.

As a primary condition of the dismissal, Limbaugh must continue to seek treatment from the doctor he has seen for the past 2? years, Black said. Among other provisions, he also has agreed to pay the state $30,000 to defray its investigative costs, Black said.

The warrant alleges that sometime between February and August 2003, Limbaugh withheld information from a medical practitioner from whom he sought to obtain a controlled substance or a prescription for a controlled substance.

Prosecutors began investigating Limbaugh in 2003 after the National Enquirer reported his housekeeper's allegations that he had abused OxyContin and other paink**lers. He soon took a five-week leave from his radio show to enter a rehabilitation program and acknowledged he had become addicted to pain medication. He blamed it on severe back pain.

Before his own problems became public, Limbaugh had decried drug use and abuse and mocked President Clinton for saying he had not inhaled when he tried marijuana. He often made the case that drug crimes deserve punishment.

"Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. ... And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up," Limbaugh said on his short-lived television show on Oct. 5, 1995.

Prosecutors seized Limbaugh's medical records after learning about the paink**lers he had received at the Palm Beach pharmacy. The investigation was held up as the prosecutors and Black battled in court over whether the records were properly seized.

Limbaugh reported five years ago that he had lost most of his hearing because of an autoimmune inner-ear disease. He had surgery to have an electronic device placed in his skull to restore his hearing. But research shows that abusing opiate-based paink**lers also can cause profound hearing loss.

In 2003, Limbaugh said he started taking paink**lers "some years ago" after a doctor prescribed them following a spinal surgery. His back pain stemming from the surgery persisted, so Limbaugh said he started taking pills and became hooked.

"Over the past several years I have tried to break my dependence on pain pills and, in fact, twice checked myself into medical facilities in an attempt to do so," Limbaugh said at the time. "I have recently agreed with my physician about the next steps."

Actually, I have been responding to posts by telling them that I am sure, they are too intelligent to just trash talk without any real point. I must say I have seen this from both sides.
For example "It seems to me that Obangi and Kerry are already trying . . . " Being called a "dumbocrap" You must admit a Liberal didn't write that.
Both sides have to grow up on here.

I listen to Rush too, and here is his actual words:

"I am addicted to prescription pain medication," Limbaugh said on his nationally syndicated radio show. "I first started taking prescription paink**lers some years ago when my doctor prescribed them to treat post-surgical pain following spinal surgery. "Unfortunately the surgery was unsuccessful, and I continued to have severe pain in my lower back and also in my neck due to herniated discs. I am still experiencing that pain."

Immediately after the announcement, he checked himself into the clinic.

It is surmised that his addiction caused his hearing loss, not vice versa.

All I have done so far is provide you with quotes directly from news sources CNN CBS and the actual quote from Limbaugh from the day he announced his addiction related to his back pain. . You just don't care about facts. Do you know how to use Google?

Limbaugh got arrested in 2003 , his drug abuse started in 1995 , he went on radio to describe a medical condition regarding his hearing in response to some absences ,way before his arrest . If the national Enquirer gets any story , you can well assume , that it had gotten out of hand and in the public to some degree .
When Rush revealed his " Ear Problem " he explained he was taking pain k**lers FOR the problem , and did not allude to this problem being caused BY paink**lers . I heard the exact broadcast when the matter was discussed BY HIM on Radio . At that time there was NO MENTION BY LIMBAUGH ABOUT ANY BACK PAIN OR SURGERY .

On April 28, 2006, a warrant was issued for his arrest on the charge of doctor shopping. According to Teri Barbera, spokeswoman for the sheriff, during his arrest, Limbaugh was booked, photographed, and fingerprinted, but not handcuffed. He was then released after about an hour on $3,000 bail.

Do you just make up your own facts?

Rush Limbaugh has described himself as being "100%, totally deaf".[143] In 2001, Limbaugh announced that he had lost most of his ability to hear: "I cannot hear television. I cannot hear music. I am, for all practical purposes, deaf – and it's happened in three months." He said that the condition was not genetic.[144] On December 19, 2001, doctors at the House Ear Clinic in Los Angeles were able to successfully restore a measure of his hearing through cochlear implant surgery. Limbaugh received a Clarion CII Bionic Ear.[145]

Timeline indeed , the ear /excuse/problem -preceded his arrest by 5 years . a "timeline " had to be established by his attorneys to show that his "addiction " was due soley to his spinal surgery .....which is B.S.

Seems a lot of effort by a lot of people to discuss Limbaugh and whether or not he lied, was a hypocrite, got away with a crime, and on and on.

I might offer a bit of perspective - he is an entertainer first and foremost. His choice of entertainement is political commentary. He has never been elected to, or ran for, any political office and therefore has never possessed and power through the use of government resources.

Consider wh**ever crime he might have commited and got away with with the crime of manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident involving death that an elected official got not only got away with, but was reelected to a powerful office multiple times. Outrage seems displaced and selective.

I do remember those stories, Salty, and I also remember reports of there being an overwhelming number of adolescents, and pre-adolescents in the make-up of the NVA/VietCong towards the end of the war. This would seem to imply, by association, that the enemy was becoming desperate in their attempts to maintain troop numbers.

I can't say how accurate they were,(the reports), but I certainly remember them.
