Problem Solving: working without Labels

Similiar to the line from a Field Of Dreams, "If you build it, they will come," if you label it, they will BEcome. Addressing comments, simply discussing the topic as stated here, without automatically labeling the commentor may help us find solutions instead of enemies.

Does anything or everything have to fall under a label of Liberal or Conservative (and I am not talking about Democrat and Republican, though those labels also cause problems)?

For the colonists, was being for the American Revolution liberal or conservative? For the colonists, was being against the American Revolution liberal or conservative?
If a Southerner, was being a s***e-owner liberal or conservative? If a Southerner, was being against s***ery liberal or conservative?
If you were a steel worker back in the early 1900s, was organizing against a cut in wages, the firing of fellow workers, then forced to work 12 hour shifts, 6 days a week with an expected increase of productivity for the firings, where 1 out of every 11 workers died in unsafe conditions or take a hike just to increase profit for the owners liberal or conservative? (I know, just the phrasing will get an immediate label, despite the fact it was a reality at that time.)

Here is a portion below from this link: http://michaelcatt.com/2012/03/the-problem-with-labels/

"The longer I live, the more I detest being labeled. I resent being labeled by the region of the country that I live in. Typically, those of us in the South have labels for Yankees (oops, there’s a label), and those in the North have a label for those below the Mason Dixon Line. The danger is that we tend to judge someone by a preconceived disposition that may have no basis in fact.

Now before I go any further, there are some labels I’m proud of. Not all labels are bad. I’m proud to wear the label of husband and father. I rejoice that God called me to wear the label of pastor. I’m grateful when someone labels me their friend. I am unashamed to call myself one who is committed to the inspiration and inerrancy of Scripture. These are good labels.

When it comes to labels and religion, everyone wants to fit you into their system of preconceived ideas. Often when I meet someone and they find out what denomination I serve, they turn me off before they ever get to know me. I have great distaste for those who want to label me by a denomination. Not every church in my denomination is the same. In every denomination there are churches that tarnish the name of that particular persuasion.

Lol, I can amend the verbosity to this simple question: are labels necessary to discuss a topic?

Perhaps as a trail marker. I was once asked if I was lost, and I replied, "nope, I know where I ain't."

It is a VERY good thing you simplified your point.

The chance of my ceasing to declare my label to be a Virginia born and bred Southern woman was absolutely NIL!!!

Further the chance of my giving up questioning what your luggage is made of based on where you are from is , also, nil.

 :-)  :-) 8-)

I am not like either of you good women from the South: I have no solid ground, no sweet bed of loyalties. My mind is its own territory. This is by no means good or decent. I have no group, or lost in claiming allegiance to anything or anyone. No comfort of belonging. Humans are a species I am studying, not one I belong to. This is real. It has been so all my life, theories and novels more real than anything I encountered in everyday existence. You both have full advantage over me.

I love this. Labels seem to ave become far more important than they need to be. Oh, yes, there is some degree of necessity for defining things with labels (human, alive, etc.), but only at fundamental levels. Beyond that, the need for further definition usually becomes less necessary.

Especially useless is the types of labeling that are insults. Of all the wasted time and effort ever expended by mankind, this is almost certainly one of the worst. Let's spread the word to anyone that will listen that insults are inherently wasted effort, and will have no effect upon our own reasoned and rational discussions. (Well, one can hope, can't one?)

Good point. As concerns insults, mea culpa, except I usually do so in response to unprovoked personal attacks. Perhaps we sould all be better off to ignore certain parties whose sole purpose appears to be sowing dissent and discord.

"I have no group..." I distinctly recall your vehement defense of the people of the Bronx.

"....allegiance to anything or anyone." Again, a distinct recall of your family and their work ethic and standards.

Apparently, you have decided to abdicate your family. How ....I will not dignify this with the thoughts that leapt to my mind.

"Humans are a species I am studying, not one I belong to." This is so far out there in woo woo land, it cannot be in any way shape or form addressed.

I am literally beyond appalled with you.
