Well gosh, what do you know? Iran discovers an ‘unexpectedly high’ reserve of uranium

Just in case you were worried that, with Obama’s Iran nuclear deal in full effect, Iran would start lying (and of course we would believe them) about their nuclear capabilities: Don’t worry! That’s not the case at all. As it turns out, they were lying to our side even during the negotiations. Remember how Iran’s uranium reserves were supposed to be very low, and they would soon have to import uranium just to meet their entirely peaceful nuclear energy needs?

You know, it’s the funniest thing:

Iran has discovered an unexpectedly high reserve of uranium and will soon begin extracting the radioactive element at a new mine, the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization said on Saturday.

The comments cast doubt on previous assessments from some Western analysts who said the country had a low supply and would sooner or later would need to import uranium, the raw material needed for its nuclear program.

Any indication Iran could become more self-sufficient will be closely watched by world powers, which reached a landmark deal with Tehran in July over its program. They had feared the nuclear activities were aimed at acquiring the capability to produce atomic weapons - something denied by Tehran.

“I cannot announce (the level of) Iran’s uranium mine reserves. The important thing is that before aerial prospecting for uranium ores we were not too optimistic, but the new discoveries have made us confident about our reserves,” Iranian nuclear chief Ali Akbar Salehi was quoted as saying by state news agency IRNA.

Salehi said uranium exploration had covered almost two-thirds of Iran and would be complete in the next four years.

Now Iran is asking us to believe that they just discovered this, and up to now they had no idea their uranium reserves were this high. There’s probably no way to know for sure if that’s true, but consider: If you’re entering into major negotiations with other world powers about your nuclear program, and you have the ability to do an aerial scan to determine your level or uranium reserves, do you wait until after the negotiations are finished and then do it? How would that make sense, as opposed to doing it beforehand so that as you negotiate you’ll have a clear sense of what your real capabilities are?

Obviously it makes more sense to do it before, and the only reason we have to think they did it after is that they say so, which given that we’re dealing with Iran is no reason at all.

This makes them less dependent on imports, which means it will be that much harder for inspectors to keep tabs on their overall capacity. Then again, we’re letting them do a lot of self-inspection anyway, so I’m sure they’ll tell us everything - oh right, except that they didn’t tell us about this until the deal was already signed.

Sorry!

Between this and Ayatollah Khamenei’s declaration that Israel will not exist in 25 years, those Democrats who fell in line over the past few days to support the deal had quite a week. Iran not only lies and c***ts, they taunt you as they do it. And why not? As long as Obama and Kerry are in charge of foreign policy, they will pay absolutely no price for doing so.
