Fmr Top Military Officials Release Damning Report on Iran Deal

Makes war more likely, threatens American interests.

On The same day that President Obama effectively ensured the survival of his "landmark" nuclear deal with Iran, a group of former top military officials and intelligence analysts published their blistering assessment of the deal. The administration's agreement with Iran, the group concludes, only increases the potential for a war with Iran and threatens America's interests in the region.

Wednesday, Obama secured enough Democrat Senate v**es to prevent Republicans from overriding his veto of an expected resolution of disapproval of the deal. The president's "win" comes amid increasingly dour poll numbers for the deal (the American public rejects it by a ratio of 2 to 1) and more damning assessments of the potential consequences of the deal.

The Iran Strategy Council's report published Wednesday details the ways in which the deal, the "Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action," undermines American interests and heightens the probability of more conflicts in the region.

"Contrary to the false choice between support for the JCPOA and military confrontation, the agreement increases both the probability and danger of hostilities with Iran," the council warns. "Given the deleterious strategic consequences to the United States, implementation of the JCPOA will demand increased political and military engagement in the Middle East that carries significantly greater risks and costs relative to current planning assumptions."

The deal, the former military and intelligence officials argued, will empower Iran to wage even more destructive campaigns in the region by enabling it to "increase support for terrorist and insurgent proxies, aggravate sectarian conflict and trigger both nuclear and conventional proliferation cascades."

The report warns that the Iranian regime's expanded "access to resources, technology and international arms markets" will only help it "bolster" its "offensive military capabilities," particularly in the development of long-range ballistic missiles.

The report comes just days after the regime proudly unveiled its more effective short-range ballistic missiles and proclaimed that it would not heed any restrictions on its military expansion.

The Washington Times provides some details on the Iran Strategy Council:

The Iran Strategy Council was commissioned by the Jewish Institute of National Security to educate Americans on the consequences of the Iran nuclear deal.

Members of the council include retired Gen. James Conway, former Commandant of the Marine Corps; retired Air Force Gen. Chuck Wald, former Deputy Commander of the United States European Command; retired Adm. Mark Fitzgerald, former Commander of the U.S. Naval Forces in Europe/Africa; and retired Vice Adm. John Bird, former Commander of the U.S. Seventh Fleet.

I don't remember that, but nothing that Marxist says surprises me.
