Cheney: Obama's Motive to 'Make Iran Dominant Force' in Middle East

By Greg Richter | Wednesday, 02 Sep 2015

President Barack Obama's goal in the Iran nuclear deal appears to have been to make Iran the top power in the Middle East, former Vice President Dick Cheney told Newsmax TV.

"[T]he only way to interpret it and what his motives were was he really wanted to boost Iran's position in that part of the world and make them the dominant force at the expense of our allies," Mr. Cheney said on Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

Obama's ideology "doesn't fit reality," Cheney said, especially in regard to the Middle East, he said.

Cheney said the only winner in the nuclear agreement is Iran, "in terms of having a path ultimately to develop a nuclear weapons, in terms of receiving over $100 billion, sanctions being lifted, the embargo on ballistic missiles being lifted, the embargo on conventional arms being lifted.

"They get everything in this deal and the Israelis and the Saudis and the Jordanians, the Egyptians, the Emirates, all of our friends and allies in that part of the world are appalled with what happened," he said, "but they also feel directly threatened by a nuclear-armed Iran."

Republicans should have treated the deal as a treaty so they would have had to get a two-thirds majority of the Senate to pass rather than as it stands, requiring a two-thirds majority to override a promised p**********l veto.

In addition, Democrats plan a filibuster that would prevent an up-or-down v**e with names attached to how they v**ed.

"That's a total neutering … of the United States Senate in one of the most important issues that's likely to come before them in this decade," Cheney said. "I do not understand why they've allowed that to happen."

The former vice president under George W. Bush is co-author with his daughter Liz Cheney of the new book, "Exceptional: Why the World Needs a Powerful America," published by Threshold Editions.

Cheney: 'Dramatic' Cuts Makes US Weak to Terror Threats

By Bill Hoffmann | Wednesday, 02 Sep 2015

The rise of terrorism around the world and America's growing inability to deal with it may set the stage for another 9/11-style attack on the U.S. — one that is far worse, former Vice President Dick Cheney tells Newsmax TV.

Appearing on "The Hard Line," Cheney, who served under George W. Bush, said Wednesday that the nation's capacity to deal with terror has been diminished because of "dramatic" budget cuts by the Obama administration.

"There are very serious threats we're facing, perhaps the most serious since the end of World War II," Cheney told host Ed Berliner.
"On the other hand, the capacity force to manage those threats and deal with them has been significantly reduced."

Cheney discusses the nation's need to regain its former strength in "Exceptional: Why the World Needs a Powerful America," a new book written with his daughter, Liz Cheney, and published by Threshold Editions.

He believes the rise of the Islamic State [ISIS] is particularly disturbing — and dangerous.

"[ISIS has] already established a caliph**e in Iraq and Syria. That's been an objective of the radical Islamist for a long time and they've done it. The question now is do they have the reach to be able to begin to implement events in that part of the world and clearly they have," Cheney said.

"We used to worry just about al-Qaida in Afghanistan, now we're dealing with ISIS that, for example, has reached out into Libya and is a dominant force in Libya. They've now tied in with Boko Haram down in Nigeria there.

"Their writ is pretty much throughout the region and they are extremely bloody minded and dedicated to the destruction of Israel, but also the United States. So it is a growing threat and then when you add to that the mixture of nuclear weapons in the Middle East it becomes an especially difficult proposition."

And that growth, Cheney believes, brings up the specter of a possible attack on the scale of the World Trade Center attacks in New York City.

"Remember 9/11, it was caused by 19 guys armed with airline tickets and box cutters and look at the damage they did — worst attack ever in the United States," Cheney told Berliner.

"The danger I fear going forward is that there will be another mass casualty attack like 9/11, but they may use far deadlier weapons than they did on 9/11. So ISIS is a part of that as well as the situation in Iran [with the impending nuclear deal]. The administration's approach to nuclear weapons in Iran is entirely misplaced.

"[It's] taking a regime that's the worst terrorist sponsoring regime on the face of the Earth, providing it with significant capability to lift the embargo on missiles, [and] lifting the embargo on conventional weapons, returning over $100 billion to them at a time that they also will be able to maintain their capacity to enrich uranium and pursue a nuclear weapon."

Dick Cheney: 'I Will Support the Nominee of My Party'

By Todd Beamon | Wednesday, 02 Sep 2015

Former Vice President Dick Cheney unequivocally told Newsmax TV that "I will support the nominee of my party."

In an interview on "The Steve Malzberg Show," Cheney said that it was good that former Hewlett-Packard Co. CEO Carly Fiorina now had a strong chance of making the top-tier Republican candidates' debate on Sept. 16.

CNN announced Tuesday that it had amended its criteria for the event, which could greatly benefit Fiorina.

"She's the only woman in the race on the Republican side, but she obviously has an impressive background," Cheney told Malzberg. "I'm glad to see she's in the race."

Cheney is the co-author of a new book, "Exceptional: Why the World Needs a Powerful America," with his daughter, Liz Cheney, and published by Threshold Editions.

In sizing up the race, Cheney described it as "fascinating to look at."

"This is a remarkable year. When you think about the number of candidates we've got, when you see the changes under way — and Joe Biden may jump in on the Democratic side — there's a lot of activity there.

"Also, at the same time, there's a lot of dissatisfaction in the country with politics in general, with the state of the government — and you see that reflected in the polls," Cheney said. "And it may well be reflected in the public's preferences with respect to the Iowa caucuses."

I believe the short version of this is Iran is getting everything they need like the way Germany was in the 30's and 40's, we all know how that worked out.
