40,000 members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) announced that they have formally ended their association with the AFL-CIO. The Longshoremen citied Obamacare and immigration reform as two important causes of their disaffiliation.

Am I detecting a small backfire here or are they going to receive a waiver to keep them satisfied. I mean this doesn't look good for the unions does it.

Obamacare did not help the unions at all. Their numbers have been shrinking, and several unions (including the AFL-CIO) have been talking mergers here lately in order to survive. Not a good time for the unions.

The facts are that the longshoreman are joining ather MARITIME unions to form an even stronger union with consolidated power on both coasts as well as internal water freight.
