Here we go again...

Well. I guess this topic may have been discussed to death, but why don't we just simply legalize pot?

Almost every problem we have, related to pot, is caused by the fact that it's illegal.

I have a simple solution. Legalize it. However, anyone who desires to work must refrain from using it. There are already certain jobs that have a zero tolerance policy. Let's make it universal. It would also be a crime to operate a vehicle, or heavy machinery, while under the influence.

Now don't get me wrong. I don't think it's a good idea for people to smoke pot. But making it legal would solve a lot of problems. Would it create other problems? Probably. But I don't believe that criminalizing it is the right thing to do.

P.S. I almost forgot. Along with legalizing it, we should also tax the hell out of it.

I am a retired police officer, but I really can't disagree with you on decriminalizing pot. I have no intention of smoking any, since I never have, even while being around users in the RVN, and the USA, while in the USMC.

I'd just say that we need some good laws, like selling pot only in sealed tins (like sardine cans), requiring tax stamps on the tins, and making it a heavy fine and long loss of the driver's license, if caught with any pot in a vehicle not still sealed in that tin. No exceptions, and no mercy.

Pot is deadly if used behind the wheel. 1st offense driving under the influence of marijuana should carry some minimum jail time, and 2nd offense driving under influence of the ganja should be minimum of five years. Heavy tax, yes that's good too. The users, like cigarette users, should pay the cost of their future dependence on the government for healthcare of the bad consequences of using it.

We won't legalize it, because some people can't break their conditioning. We've all heard the "lessons" taught about pot for our whole lives, it makes you stupid ( as though we could tell from many folks default stupidity ), it's a gateway drug, it incites crime, etc. The reality is, this was never studied in much detail and the laws are leftovers from the prohibition thinking, meaning, if it feels good - it must be made illegal.

They tried that with booze and it didn't work out so well, but that's another story. The story we're dealing with now is, there's some evidence that chemicals contained in the pot plant has medical benefits, but it cannot be studied in universities due to it's schedule I status. Until enough politicians learn how to make money off of pot, it'll remain a schedule I narcotic.
