Wife and I took a weekend date trip and had a fantastic time.
We headed up to Little Switzerland and took a day trip down the mountain to Spruce Pine, Linville falls etc. Quaint little towns up in the mountains of North Carolina.
Approaching one little town snuggled back in a mountain valley I was surprised to see a couple of private jets parked on an apron along the twisting two lane road. A quandary of mountain proportions?
One of the highlights was some of the best BBQ ribs I have ever tasted. The other was Big Lynn Lodge.
Let me tell you about "Big Lynn Lodge"...
First you have to think back to the movie "Dirty Dancing" and focus on the resort the family was staying in....Remember: "In the summer of 1963, Frances "Baby" Houseman (Jennifer Grey) is vacationing with her affluent Jewish American family at Kellerman's, a family friendly resort in the Catsk**l Mountains.
Well; while Big Lynn Lodge is not a Jewish center of debauchery I must tell you that "Big Lynn Lodge" fits the script of stepping back in time perfectly.
For $120.00 per night we stayed in a quaint 1930's cabin on top of the mountain with a fantastic view looking out over a valley and the next range of mountains which were lying miles away.
Our first (included) dinner was a fresh and crisp house salad, Roast beef with fresh steamed green beans, Fresh corn (off the cob) Rice, Home made bread, Your drink of choice followed by Fresh and hot apple pie, topped with Ice cream and of course Hot coffee. Want more? Just ask.
Included in the daily fee was a full breakfast the next morning with everything you cold ask for.
A quiet reading library was just off the dining area and best of all was the little porch on our cabin with two old fashioned rockers overlooking the views...
So cool, so quiet, so refreshing the air, that I had little trouble leaning back and falling off into a peaceful nap.
While dreaming I discovered the solution to our ISLAM problems....
I guess; since (and yes the resort has HD cable and WiFi...) FOX news had been reporting on the anniversary of Japan surrendering to our armed forces, and peace on that island has reigned since, -- that just perchance a couple of mushroom clouds over the Middle East might bring about a similar peaceful coexistence once again..
Then I awoke to the sound of a bald eagle "sounding" as he flew along the mountain below me....
I shall return -- to a slower and more peaceful time -- as soon as I can... You too are welcome!.
Here is a link (or you can just Google "Big Lynn Lodge)...."
