Under Obama, B****s Are Worse Off -- Far Worse

Ninety-five percent of black v**ers in 2008 v**ed for then-Sen. Barack Obama. Surely a "progressive" black president would care about, empathize with and understand black America in a way no other president ever has or could, right? Exit polls from Pew Research show that 63 percent of all v**ers -- and 65 percent of Obama v**ers -- cited the economy as the number one reason they v**ed for him. Iraq was a distant second at 10 percent. Even for black Obama v**ers, "It's the economy, stupid."
After six years, the report card is in. The grades are not pretty. By every key economic measurement, b****s are worse off under Obama. In some cases, far worse off.

What about poverty? In 2009, when Obama took office, the black poverty rate was 25.8 percent. As of 2014, according to Pew Research Center, the black poverty rate was 27.2 percent.

What about income? CNNMoney says, "Minority households' median income fell 9 percent between 2010 and 2013, compared to a drop of only 1 percent for w****s." The Financial Times wrote last October: "Since 2009, median non-white household income has dropped by almost a 10th to $33,000 a year, according to the U.S. Federal Reserve's survey of consumer finances. As a whole, median incomes fell by 5 percent. But by the more telling measure of net wealth -- assets minus liabilities -- the numbers offer a more troubling story."

What about net worth and the black-white "wealth gap"? The Financial Times said: "The median non-white family today has a net worth of just $18,100 -- almost a fifth lower than it was when Mr. Obama took office. White median wealth, on the other hand, has inched up by 1 percent to $142,000. In 2009, white households were seven times richer than their black counterparts. That gap is now eightfold. Both in relative and absolute terms, b****s are doing worse under Mr. Obama." Remember, these numbers apply to all "non-w****s." For b****s, it's worse.

When looking only at "black net worth" -- which is lower compared to non-w****s as a whole -- white households are actually 13 times wealthier than black households. From 2010 to 2013, according to the Federal Reserve, white household median wealth increased a modest 2.4 percent, while Hispanic families' wealth declined 14 percent, to $13,700. But b****s' net worth fell from $16,600 to $11,000. This is an astonishing three-year drop of 34 percent. Investors Business Daily put it this way, "That's a steeper decline than occurred from 2007 to 2010, when b****s' net worth fell 13.5 percent." The black/white "wealth-gap" has reached a 25-year high.

What about unemployment? In 2009, black unemployment was 12.7 percent, and by 2014, it had fallen to 10.1 percent. This sounds like good news until one examines the black labor force participation rate -- the percentage of b****s working or seeking work. It's the lowest since these numbers have been recorded.

In a report for the Center for Economic and Policy Research, economist Dean Baker writes, "The drop in labor force participation was sharpest for African Americans, who saw a decline of 0.3 percentage points to 60.2 percent, the lowest rate since December of 1977. The rate for African American men fell 0.7 percentage points to 65.6 percent, the lowest on record. The decline in labor force participation was associated with a drop in the overall African American unemployment rate of 0.5 percentage points to 11.9, and a drop of 0.6 percentage points to 11.6 percent for African-American men." Not good.

What about home ownership? According to Harvard University's Joint Center for Housing Studies, the picture is ugly: "Millions of homeowners, particularly in minority and high-poverty neighborhoods, are still underwater on their mortgages, while millions more renters have been forced to live in housing they cannot afford or is structurally inadequate. And with the ongoing growth in low-income households, housing assistance reaches a shrinking share of those in need. ... Homeownership rates have fallen six percentage points among black households -- double that among white households. ... More than 25 percent of mortgage homeowners in both high-poverty and minority neighborhoods were underwater -- owing more than their homes are now worth -- in 2013. This rate is nearly twice the shares in either white or low-poverty neighborhoods."

The chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, D-Mo., in 2011, complained about the economic plight of Black America. He said, "If (former President) Bill Clinton had been in the White House and had failed to address this problem, we probably would be marching on the White House." He repeated the statement 12 months later, when black unemployment stood at 14.1 percent: "As the chair of the Black Caucus, I've got to tell you, we are always hesitant to criticize the President. With 14 percent (black) unemployment, if we had a white president we'd be marching around the White House." Rep. Cleaver should start marching because, to use his own words, the problems have not been addressed.

But, hey, the Confederate battle f**g is down.

Black unemployment finally falls below 10%

By Patrick Gillespie @CNNMoney
black unemployment
Unemployment for b****s fell below 10% in April for the first time since the financial crisis.
Crossing that mark is a reminder of how far the economy has recovered, but also how severe the recession impacted b****s in the U.S.

B****s got hit the worst of any race when the economy collapsed in 2008. Unemployment peaked at 16.8% for b****s in March 2010. Unemployment for w****s was almost half that rate.
Overall, the national unemployment rate fell to 5.4% Friday, its lowest point since 2008. But unemployment is still higher for b****s than any other race -- 9.6% in April.
Related: Good news: U.S. economy adds 223,000 jobs
"That definitely is a positive step in the right direction," says Valerie Wilson, an economist who covers race and ethnicity issues at the Economic Policy Institute. "But it's also an indicator of how much more progress needs to be made for African Americans."
Despite being almost six years into a recovery, the employment picture for b****s looks particularly grim in some states.
B****s in Illinois have an unemployment rate of 12.5% -- more than double the national average. Michigan, Pennsylvania and California are above 12% too, according to an EPI report. The good news is that those rates have been steadily going down in the past year.
Related: Working, but still poor
Part of the wide gap in unemployment between races can be explained by education. Fewer b****s finish high school than w****s, limiting their job options.
But education doesn't illustrate the full picture. B****s with the same education levels as w****s still have a harder time finding work. And despite more b****s having college degrees than Latinos in the U.S., Latinos have a lower unemployment rate, according to Labor Department and Census data.
B****s with the same credentials as w****s and Latinos also earn considerably less. The median weekly paycheck for a white college grad last year was $1,132. For a black college grad it was $895 -- over $230 less a week. B****s earn less than Asians and Latinos as well.
B****s access to employment networks and opportunities -- for example, job training -- play a role too. Discrimination among employers, whether conscious or not, factors into the black employment picture as well, experts say.
"It's not time to cheer and say 'mission accomplished,'" says Wilson.

Why did you think it's necessary to be demeaning and r****t. First in another board KHH1 posted on unemployment he made it clear he was not in agreement with the employment numbers, implying he was not in lock step with what the administration was publishing unemployment rate to be. You know, you where on the post, there was other information he was attempting to covey, just as in this article.
The last 5 months traveling from Washington to Florida and ever since hitting Amarillo Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee and now Mississippi the warmth of b****s receiving me, b****s and w****s in harmony. ...but the smiles and warmth comes mostly from the b****s, my cooler experience has been from middle eastern ( maybe my cross) mini mart, what I have not seen is jackasses using extreme r****t language such as yourself. That is more along h**eful r****m lines in expression, I'm confused.
Normally I don't place myself on this forum as a police of others on a personal level, keeping admonishment against political ideologies and not personal, but it's the likes of you inciting r****m, just as the media lies knowingly on stories of r****m in America with slanted stories encouraging more h**e, perhaps you do from ignorance. Only an ignorant, back hills, non educated, ??????
Make no mistake I am in no way politically aligned with KHH1, actually diametrically opposed, what I am aligned with is how hard this world can be regardless of race. I can only guess if you were an employer, what chance a black man would have getting work to feed the family. Your among a minority of race h**ers, but then there is bias to deal with, as if that's not enough of a challenge.
In the end it is standing before God, trying to explain why you h**ed your brother you will need to deal with.
