I don't want to misunderstand here. I understand about tithing. Are you saying that we should tithe to the government, at gunpoint, as well as voluntarily to our churches?

If Jesus were in charge of our government's budget, I would suspect that He wouldn't need to "force" any anything, tithing or whatever. Besides, the use of force wasn't used or implied in the topic title. You're trying to interject information not yet in evidence or take the conversation in a different direction.

Why is a spear (Roman or otherwise) or gun point necessary to help those in need? If this is truly a Christian nation as claimed by so many, then the government is responsible to care for "the least of these." There is no tax in this nation that is ruinous, unlike in ancient Jerusalem. Yet Jesus said "Render unto Caesar..." To feed, house, and clothe the poor means to most in their taxes no difference in their lifestyle. To a few it may mean a slight delay in getting that summer home. How fat do we want to be at the expense of those hungry and desperate? The Right has the answer. Call them bottom-feeders, welfare queens, and cheats. What may not have hurt so much in taxes is now an outrage.

The Right has continually painted this picture of the poor in this country as lazy opportunist. Do not waste your breath. The Right's hypocrisy in this area is total. Keep welfare for Oil and Agriculture making gargantuan profits but cut off benefits to the unemployed during a depressed economy. Rescind regulations on how they operate but force the poor to take drug tests for their benefits. Why not the same for the CEO getting a government subsidy? Because the Right makes the poor to be loathsome blood-suckers.

Let me know the next time someone gets arrested for the laws of a Christian Nation:
(1) Apostasy
(2) Heresy
(3) Non-conformity related to offenses against the religion as practiced by the established church.
(4) Blasphemy could include profane scoffing of the Holy Scriptures and the blasphemous use of the name of God. Such was punishable by fines, imprisonment, and corporal punishment.
(5) Swearing and cursing were considered a lesser offense than blasphemy but, nevertheless, they came under the punishment of the common law.
(6) Witchcraft, conjuration, enchantment, and / or sorcery.
(7) Religious impostors. Those falsely claiming extraordinary commission from heaven were punished by the temporal courts with fines, imprisonment and corporal punishment.
(8) Simony is the practice of using religion for personal profit. This too was severely punished.
(9) Profaning the "LordÂ’s Day" (Sunday). This included the practice of conducting secular business and such transactions on the first day of the week. Work was also prohibited on Sunday and offenders were fined.
(10) Drunkenness & (11) Lewdness. There were severe fines for anyone who was considered to exhibit immodesty in any way.
