D******eness in America: who or what gains from it?

The answer is simple: our nation's enemies.

What is k*****g this country is the demonizing perpetrated by both sides on the other party. It is sickeningly childish and ultimately destructive: "You're a big stupid, poo-poo head"; "No, you're a big stupid, poo-poo head." Great strategy! That should get the economy moving again and the country back on its feet.

Everyone here who demonizes (resorts to insults and name calling) the other side of an issue or policy is contributing to the death of America. The fear- and h**e-mongering make us look a nation having a terrible-two's tantrum. Laughable, if it were not bringing a great democracy to its knees in a pitiful end. Do not be fooled into thinking you are some sort of patriot for these foolish attacks: you are a dupe for those hungry to see this "great experiment" come to a miserable demise.

Debates get hot and sometimes harsh things are said; that is understandable. Grown-ups, as things cool, go back and look to resolve the issues. If ACA is as terrible as some think, how is cursing those who approve it helping any? Wh**ever the difference of opinion, how is insult instead of open debate, with an earnest desire to find what is best for America, making a change?

"We have met the enemy...and it is us."

Our rumitoid has been on a mission for the last two weeks. He is trying to create civil discourse. I fear it is a thankless, albeit good, cause.

Thank you both. As part of the WPD Party, you were naturally exempt from this reading. I have enjoyed all our exchanges and look forward to continued civil and interesting (sometimes hot) discussions.

What is the WPD Party? I thought this was the WTF Party? It's late, I'm compulsive about leaving any coffee in the pot. Sue me.

Your heart is in the right place and I agree with you on this subject. But, the nature of politics in its self makes emotions run high. It is within human nature to pick sides, yes just like kids do on the playground. When a side is challenged, and the belief system is strong you will find certain personality types that get so frustrated that they can not sway everyone's opinion to match their own they resort to their early childhood. They insult and try to demean because they are not capable of supporting their belief system. Most think that it is enough to believe.

Our country is in a very bad position. It is not because of the age old arguments over politics. Those arguments along with name calling have existed from the time of cave man. Our major problems come from our elected officials. Some very bad decisions have been made and some of those decisions have irreversibly harmed our finances, race relations, and the unwillingness of the elected officials to recognize and admit that they made errors has polarized the nation.

In times past, our nation has rallied around our government, our Constitution, our churches and places of worship, and pulled together. We had a common enemy, and we faced it as a nation. It is different this time. Our current president and those that he supports such as Sharpton, General Alexander, Holder, and so on have publically said things and done things that is new and fresh, but so damaging.

Many Americans are angered over the probing into our personal lives by spying, many feel that the president sent a loud signal to the nation regarding race unrest and implied by his actions that he supports the black race regardless of what they do. Yes, this is the perception of many because he has not spoken out about black on white violence. Many think that the majority of people are not being heard. So, combined these things make for anxiety, guilt, anger, and those feelings are reflected in web sites such as this. Writers are confident that they will never meet you so they are not here to be nice and kind. Many are here just to vent their emotions because they have no other outlet.

I do not say these things to alienate you from me, it is just my observation of the new world we find ourselves and the oh so strange inhabitants.

He used the wrong letters when he mentioned the WTP. The WPD is an event planned while you were missing from action. It stands for watch paint dry. I am hostess. It was one of the forums which went off the rails into party planning. You are welcome to join us. Worried is bringing popcorn, old gringo is providing tee shirts, myself comfy lawn chairs and the paint we are watching dry as well as c*****rs/spreads, root beer for rumitoid and a tree for unwelcome intruders. I think I may be providing the rope to go over the tree branch. 8-)

Why thankless if in a good cause?
I'm with rumitoid. I've been trying to have civil discourse with conservatives for a long time. I don't think it's a lost cause. In fact, I think it's extremely important not to lose civility with those one disagrees with. (sorry about the dangling participle).

He was absent when the event was planned. I do not know if he will join us for our event. He is certainly welcome.

I think I may have just been uncivil to you on another post.

I say "thankless" as there, as Ginnyt just posted" who simply cannot condone being questioned on their positions. I, personally, fall into such a category on one or two subjects. Although I am unmovable on those subjects, I try to remain civil.

Uh huh. You want me to cook. I can see right through your flimsy, amateurish charade.

No, you do not have to cook. We are doing hors d'oeuvres. It may not be up to your standard; however, I do not ask my guests to prepare food. The only reason Worried is doing popcorn is because it is his speciality. This was planned, as I said, while you were missing. You may to raise your standard on one thing. I am doing festive cloth napkins. NO PAPER TOWELS :!: :!:

Excellent points, civilly presented and absolutely accurate.

Of course, I have been saying all along the water on your side of the river produces such excellent thoughts and presentation.

haven't seen that post yet.
We all have positions we hold dear. It's how we discuss them that determines how civil we are. I also have my "one or two subjects" that test my own civility. And I can fail my own test.

But I do appreciate the attempt at civility, even if we might disagree.
