I Have Grown Weary

I began working to change the injustices in this country in 1972. I have given of my time, my money, and a couple of times my freedom. But to what end? For every two steps forward there has been at least one backwards

There is so much hate in this country. So much willingness to allow suffering for profit. So much greed. Perhaps we are getting what we deserve. We allow ourselves to be divided along racial, economic, religious, and gender lines. There are 99% of people being held down. Some denied even the basic right to life. Yet, we still refuse to understand the simple fact: There is power in numbers. We come together and there is nothing we can't accomplish. Yet compromise has become a dirty word.

I do not wish to leave my country but I feel it may be time to do just that. By contributing monetarily to this society I must ask the question: Am I part of the problem? I read headlines of twelve year olds being killed by what I consider to be the U.S.'s new Gestapo instead of the outrage that should have come from all quarters, we actually had people blaming the child.

We allow children to suffer in one of the richest countries in the world because to this society they are expendable. Yet the same people who complain about social programs want to take away a woman's right to choose.

I think it is time to pass the torch to the younger generation. I hope they accomplish more than my generation. I don't think I want to live in such a mean spirited country any longer.

It can be discouraging. Can you get out among folks who do some good? That will lift your spirits for sure.
It always works for me.

It does seem almost impossible....especially, when you have poor and middle class so called " conservatives" that support that 1%....it was explained very well in the book " what's wrong with Kansas?"....the farmers are going broke but " hey, look over there ! Queers are getting married ! " and that's all they needed to do to divert their attention....I'm not sure if we can sustain this as a country.....the wealthy get richer, the poor get poorer and the middle class gets squeezed...this has been going on for over 30 years....personally, I don't see it getting better..

The pendulum will swing as it has before, I can only wonder why we have to continuously do that.

The history should be helping people to realize what is up. As you say, the distractions keep people from concentrating on their own self interest.

We all get discouraged, and fed up with the hatred and ignorance, but we can not afford to lose you. Every strong compassionate voice is needed.

I remember a professor I had at university telling me once, when dealing with the elite always ask for three time more than you need. That way they feel they're screwing you. Most of the time they will agree and you get what you need.

So true. Sharing is not a strength... or maybe just seeing the needs of others.
