To my mind, the U.S. Constitution is a "liberal" document and an affront to conservative and religious, particularity Christian, dogma. As it should be. The Constitution entrenches in law--at the constitutional level--much that conservatives abhor. For example, the 14th Amendment says, in part,
No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
That says to me, under "liberty", that such thanks as same sex marriage, the right to choose, etc. are all protected by the Constitution.

The Constitution also expressly grants freedom of religion which means those who promote the U.S. as a Christian nation are just plain wrong.

As I say, the Constitution of the United States is a liberal not a conservative document. And if the Nine were, in fact, strict constructionists, the US would be far more liberal than it now is and Roe v. Wade would never be in danger of being overturned.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd - Voltaire!

All through history, ideologies have crossed every line and aspects of life and back...apparently that's news to you. Did you thuck yer thumb all 12 years of kindergarten?

The ideas of Liberalism – that men had unalienable rights, sovereignty lay with the people, and the government acted as their servant – swept throughout Europe and America during the 18th Century. It was popular in many segments of society, yet was also seen as a great threat to the existing order. The ideas of Liberalism were especially popular amongst American colonists. Liberal ideas drove the colonists to radically reshape political thinking in the American Revolution of 1776, which successfully replaced an overseas King with a Constitutional Republic! Is there any dispute comrade?
